I purchased my 20" Big Boy Steel about a year before Henry released the side loading gate. Ever since then I've been wanting to somehow trade my Henry for a Henry. I'm going to place an ad and hopefully raise funds to get a 16" Big Boy Steel with side loading gate. I would even do a trade if anyone was willing. Could be a good deal for someone who needs a few hundred bucks, but doesn't want to sell anything. They would still have a 357 Henry.

I've used my Henry loading gate a couple of times. I much prefer the tube, faster, easier on the thumb.

My Marlin is so tight I need gloves to load it.

Thanks for the real world review and experience with the side loading gate. It just gets me because had I waited a year, or even known to wait a year for the side loading gate I would have gone with a 16" barrel. Although I do prefer the looks of my longer barrel. Then again had I waited several years then I might have chosen one of them new Ruger made Marlin 94's. Oh well, can't waste time on what ifs. Ha! Thanks for your input.

I only have one older lever to show. Marlin 1936 in 30-30 that I inherited from my Dad (filled the freezer for many years as his only deer rifle back in the day).

Left pic is 1895 (1898 or so in 30 army), 94 (32 win spc 1930’s), 73 in 32-20 from 1880 or so

Wow! Beautiful collection. Two questions: (1) What's the story on the weapon with all the (what look like) hobnails adorning the stocks? (2) Can these older weapons handle the pressure levels of modern factory ammunition or do you have to use only custom, probably reloaded?

Makes sense as far as the loads are concerned!

The hobnails remind me of pictures I have seen in books of how some native Americans would decorate their saddle guns. You're right, if that gun could tell it's story I bet it would be fascinating!
