Event SoCal Shooters! An Appleseed event for you! — 25-meter Rifle Marksmanship Clinic – California Tactical Academy, Piru, CA – September 19-20, 8am-5pm

One of the most common questions I get when posting events is, "When are we going to get something like this back in Southern California?" Well, the Piru Crew of Appleseed instructors has started adding events for a fall calendar!

Tentative plans are for four Appleseed events at the California Tactical Academy (which I hear is an awesome range) in Piru, not far from Castaic and Valencia. The October, November, and December dates and the types of events (Rifle or Pistol) for those dates are still being determined, but the September Rifle Clinic is ready for you to sign up.



This is a Project Appleseed 25-meter Rifle Marksmanship Clinic. During two full days of instruction and live fire practice, you will learn the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship:

• Proper use of a USGI rifle sling to stabilize your shots.
• Natural point of aim — the point of impact where your relaxed body will place the shot.
• The steady hold factors of the standing, seated, and prone positions.
• The six steps to making the shot.
• How to make sight adjustments.

You will also hear history stories of the American Revolution, centering on April 19, 1775, the day the Revolutionary War started, and how marksmanship and aimed fire changed the course of history that day. All history stories are presented free of modern politics and partisanship in a way that can be appreciated by all.

Both Centerfire and Rimfire rifles are allowed.

Fees:

• Course fee: Adult - $95, Youth under 18 - $50, Military Active/Reserve & Guard, LEO, Disabled, Re-enactors in period dress, & Elected officials w/ID/Proof - $70
• Range fees: $20 per day

This is a family-friendly event. Everyone is welcome at Project Appleseed, youth are eligible to participate, and women and girls are encouraged to sign up. Invite your family and friends to attend! Whether you’ve never fired a rifle before or you’re an experienced competitive shooter, there will be something for you to learn and appreciate.

Yes it will!

You also need to belong to a certain type of recognized organization (I forget how it is defined). You may already belong to one, but if not, the Revolutionary War Veterans Association is one of the recognized organizations. You can buy your RWVA membership first and get a discount on the class with a coupon code. Membership and the code are good for a year. Or you can get your membership on the same page where you buy your ticket, but I’m not sure about the coupon code if you do it that way. After the class, ask your shoot boss for the CMP paperwork showing your participation.

What are you going to get? An M1 Garamd?

EDIT 2: Did you see that CMP is going to be releasing M14s modified for the civilian market next year? I think that's what I want!

Good to hear! I may already be a member of the Garand Collectors Association but if not, then I'll consider the RWVA. An M1 Garand would be great, but I'm eyeing the 1911A1s available.

I have heard about the CMP M14s! I already have a Springfield M1A, but maybe I'll pick one up to compare the two.

I understand your point, but I'm just a volunteer helping to get the word out on these events, and it's not really in my power to offer discounts. Project Appleseed and the RWVA is not a business. It's a 501(c)(3) public charity and non-profit organization, and everyone involved is a volunteer, including all the instructors, all the officers of the organization, and me. Nobody gets paid for any of this. That's why these classes are already so inexpensive without a discount. Most rifle events are $85 for two full 8-hour days of instruction. It just covers expenses.

I don't want to violate any policies of this forum or come off like I'm spamming with announcements. I want to be a good citizen of the forum! Is it ok if I keep posting the announcements? Or is there a better way for me to do it?

$95 for two day full course is a solid price for a course and beneficial to the community.. I think we can find something for your group. We'll move it as necessary. Since the org is a 501(c)(3) and provides low cost instruction, it's ok to post IMO. We're working on providing resources to our members.

It's cool to see they're still around. I got introduced to them somehow at the Concord range in maybe 2012 as a teenager and got on the email list, left for many years and now I'm back and they're still blasting emails! lol

The pricing is extremely fair. High level courses can charge crazy money for way less instruction time.

Yes! The shoot boss for the Piru events has dates picked out for October, November, and December. But he is considering doing a pistol event for one of them, just not sure which one, so he hasn’t made the registration pages live yet. Hopefully he will sort that out soon.
