I think people who live on the coasts have little idea how different the Covid experience was for Flyover people vs themselves. The media made it sound like everyone in the country, or indeed the developed world, was “locked down” (whatever that meant), but in fact out here between the coasts it was largely business as usual.

In Nevada our hapless Governor, looking to California for guidance, closed most hospitality businesses, including gaming, for a few months; but aside from that there was never any “lockdown” out here (in the wokest city in Nevada, no less). If you went deeper into Nevada you didn’t even see any stupid masks.

Most of Flyover was like this, a very different experience from what was described in the bicoastal media. Can’t speak to the education issues as I don’t have any kids, but even my LA-based nephew had a perfectly normal high school experience, with sports and everything, because he went to Catholic school.

Anyway, we got out of California almost a decade ago, mostly because the crowds were becoming intolerable. Crowds everywhere; on the streets, on the highways; in restaurants, in parking lots, wherever you went. I spend a lot of time outdoors, and if you didn’t get to, for example, Chantry Flat before 7:00 on a weekend, you would have to drive home (not that that ever happened to me, I’m an early riser, but I did grab one of the last parking spaces a few times). I was sick of it.

There is none of that here in Reno; outside the casinos (full of Californians) no one waits in line for anything. I live about an hour from Glorious Lake Tahoe™, yet basically never ever go there, because it is everything I moved to Nevada to get away from. I am content to look at it from the top of Mt Rose or Chickadee Ridge.

We have other lakes, and there is wild river running right through the middle of town, about two or three hundred feet from where I’m sitting.

I’m in the firearms business, so California gun control was also contributing factor, but only secondary. However, since then the legislative landscape has gotten so ridiculous in California I can’t imagine why anyone in the firearms business even remains.

I was born and lived most of my life in California. Californians have brainwashed themselves about the delights of living in the state; I know because I was one of the brainwashed. But you know the very best thing about Reno, better than the laws, better than the dearth of crowds, better than proximity to mountains and desert? It's the climate. This is the best climate in the world (and I’ve been around the world), with four delightful seasons, each one of which I look forward to arriving, year after year. California doesn’t have the best climate, it has a boring climate.

I wish I came here 20 years sooner.

I applaud anybody who made it out of CA and found a satisfying lifestyle elsewhere.
CA is in a free-fall decline, it's horrible. Over-population, cost of living, traffic, homelessness.
I thought about leaving 10/15 years ago but didn't have balls to do it.
Finally, 5 years ago I bought property in AZ, Mohave County with the intention to retire there.
I am still stuck here. Luckily, I do not have to commute. Living in this coastal community is not too bad.
I've seen plenty of people moving out of state for good. I don't know anybody who wants to come back.

I did well, planned well and enjoying my senior years immensely. I live in the best town in California near the beach with the best climate in the world. Very little crime here, the cops are great and no illegal aliens, they can't afford it here. Got a nice place worth too much money and I pay 1976 property tax rates.

California is one of the most diverse and beautiful places on earth. Not talking about people but the land. I go everywhere in my Jeep as there is so much that most never see here. The adventure kicks in where the pavement ends.

I avoid places like LA and that helps. No kids so no worries about that. I do visit other states each year so I get to enjoy all the good spots as well. I always look forward to coming home after a trip. Got all the guns and ammo I'll ever need or want so new gun laws don't affect me.

Since when does one have to be a technophobic Luddite to own guns? Do you own semi-auto pistols? Do they have optics? Or, are you still loading black powder into your musket? You enjoy A/C, computers, Internet, and other tech right? Computers were brought to the mass market from Silicon Valley, CA.

I have solar and a Tesla Model 3 Performance. Charges on sunlight, quicker than most motorcycles. Zero emissions from the car. Unaffected by air density and they don't breathe, which is why NASA used an electric rover for three different lunar missions.

It seems you find tech developed or used by liberals to be repugnant, but if you do an inventory you won't pass a purity test.

Test-drive a Tesla long-range sometime and experience what it is you think you hate. Without first-principles knowledge you're just speaking from ignorance and probably a load of false narratives. Anyone who actually owns an EV can see it a mile away. In fact, I'm surprised by how many EVs I see at the range, but I am still in California.

In CA, it is possible to avoid the worst of it such as higher crime areas and insane ideologues. Some counties are more conservative and CCW friendly. The people here aren't so ridiculously extremist on either side of the political spectrum, not that both sides are equally toxic.

I have my EV and solar without the gawd-awful politics or woke anti-Tesla s. Some right-wingers used to block charging stalls but that's calmed a bit too, and they may finally realize it's futile. Some who actually drove an EV have been deprogrammed from anti-EV hysteria.

Got a nice private range nearby, and all of my guns are off-roster PPTs purchased with CA tech money (free state simulator). With sufficient money, one really isn't limited to the roster but for catching the right PPT. Once you have the guns you want you're pretty much set. Can't do much about suppressors or standard mags yet.

With an FFL03/COE you're getting ammo sent right to your door. In a good county, a CCW is a no-brainer.

Will I stay here forever? Probably not. The dream is to buy land in a free state. Not sure which state yet, but I am chained to my desk (at home) for about 5 more years if I want the minimum social security payment (on top of my investment payouts).

If this trend continues, be prepared to pay higher taxes across the board, on everything! And don’t be surprised when the democrats conjure up a few new ones like puppy and rainbow taxes(mileage tax). And of course, more taxes on ammo and gun purchases for sure. Yes my friends, for us that have to remain in the “ Golden State” for whatever purpose, we will be the ones to support this state on the backs of our hard labor.
