Call in a favor from a friend in a free state. Get a paid mailbox in a free state with a forwarding service after getting a CC using that address.

How about some cost estimates for those activities so folks can compare with a potentiaL fee from a receiving FFL?

I'm SO glad I foresaw that something like these 2 laws would come into being at some point and stocked up on spare stuff a LONG time ago. Spare barrels, spare small parts, spare Glock frame, spare buffers, tube, springs... spare EVERYTHINGs.

About the only thing I didn't get was a couple spare gas blocks for my various AR15 barrel sizes (on of them is aluminum so it will def need replacing at some point) but I don't shoot them that much anyway so should be fine regardless. And if it's not, I'm sure MidwayUSA will have it if I need it.

Between reddit and here, i think the community platforms did a decent job in keeping the public at large informed of what was coming...

Now we have to educate all the new comers and people coming back from hiatus. We've been seeing a lot of registrations AFTER Jan 1, 2026, so I'm sure people coming in would be confused. The laws here are so fluid.

Just talked to one of my FFLs and they were quoting 5% fee which definitely stings on top of some of those custom barrel costs

When I was in Rifle Gear last week I was told that they will receive parts and barrels for $10 per order. The background check for the barrels doesn't start until July and it will be the same as the ammo check at $5. I wonder if you need to already own a gun to pass the barrel background since the ammo check requires that. If you don't have a gun in CFARS do you have to do a full DROS? I haven't heard must about the background check details.

Call around. My buddy just order a rifle kit from palmetto and had shipped to his ffl. He paid $10 for it for the ffl to receive it and pick it up the same day.
