Love my chucks but I cannot wear them without some kind of in sole like Super Feet. So I started wearing Vans with the extra cush in sole that it already comes with.Converse Chuck Taylors. Good enough for Delta Force and Army special ops helicopter pilot HM Murdock.
If you want shoes that last a long time I'd avoid new brands.Ive also been trying to find some good footwear, buy once cry once type of shoes that will last years.
Been curious about Crispi footwear. Only recently heard of them and they are up there in price but they look like they could be worth the price. Honestly though, most good boots or all-terrain shoes cost a couple hundred.

That shoe looks promising. I might give it a try.Topo Athletic Mtn Racer 4. Has the wide toe box like Altras but also a 5mm drop heel as opposed to the zero drop heels Altras have. They are my #1 go to hiking trail runner/match running shoes. In my early USPSA days long ago I used Solomons and a couple others that I no longer use due to the very narrow width.
I also am a lot slower than I was 20 yrs ago so not like I need the most aggressive lugs either.

Shoe durability occurs in a few places: the tread (how hard/soft the rubber is = how long it lasts), the padding, the upper material/construction.
Some trail running shoes are super comfy and grippy but will be bald in a season or two. Trail hiking shoes tend to be much more durable and aimed at lasting through multiple seasons of long hikes.
I've also learned that there are more shoe types than ever. In between trail runners and hikers are through hikers, which are lighter than traditional hiking shoes (think Merell lowtops) but a little more durable than the runners. Through hikers are for people backpacking who want a light shoe and don't care that it falls apart in 400 miles (compare that to traditional hiking boots that could usually do multiple seasons carrying heavy loads).
There's a lot of established brands and most of them make the same varieties of shoes. I'd start with a focus on what you're using the shoe for (static range, pistol comp with running/sliding, hiking and shooting, etc), then do some internet research on longevity, then try some on at a store or order a bunch to your house.
Asolo lightweight hiking boots. Great ankle support. Can usually get the for half price at Sierra Trading Post online.I'd like to get some lighter weight high top shoes or boots that will still be plenty grippy out in the dirt/rocks etc. Breathable a plus since it gets hot AF up here in NorCal during the summer. Coming off a badly sprained ankle, so a little ankle support is why I'm thinking high tops or boots.
I wore some USMC Issue Desert Boots to the Intro Class and they were absolutely not it, felt like I had lead weights on my feet.
Wouldn't be mad if these fit into the tactical type realm in addition to being able to be used for competition.
Ahhh the taliban specials. Lol this would be something to see out there.
