Not Russian.. but.. Cugir Romania WASR 10/63 - Stamped 1973. Acquired it roughly a year ago, when 7.62 prices were skyrocketing.

Started out with the classic wood furniture, dropped in all Magpul FDE stuff, along with the side-mounted Pict. rail and Sig Sauer ROMEO4S Red Dot.

Internally, the only thing I swapped out was the recoil spring for a ALG one and a Romanian AKM gas tube.

Thought I would revive an older thread with my humble contribution - these are my four favorite battle rifles from the Russian region of my safe.

From top to bottom:

1) 1938 Tula PEM - the rifle is original stamped metal matching except for a scrubbed bolt; the mount does not match the base;

2) 1944 Tula PU - the rifle is original stamped metal matching;

3) 1938 Tula - non-refurb, all original stamped metal matching, "SA" and "41" marked;

4) 1941 Izhevsk SVT-40 - all original stamped metal matching except for the magazine, "SA" marked.

Interesting. It doesn't get too hot if held behind the mag.

Pretty sure this thing is cursed af and there's a very non-zero chance it's got some bodies on it (It's a beat-up Type 56 SKS with a 1969 dated serial number and a bunch of trench art and very obvious field use wear)

The parts that matter for real military use are obviously extremely well-maintained for its age and it's an excellent shooter that pretty much came perfectly zeroed to me OOB.

Honestly has more than a little bit of a "Rifle is yours, I̷t̷ ̶a̸l̷w̸a̶y̵s̴ ̵w̸a̴s̸" vibe to it with my winning a random GunJoker auction for it from an iffy seller at a can't-miss so-cheap-it's-sus price, the big disconnect between how nasty it looks externally, how well-maintained the internals obviously are and how well it shoots after only some Cosmoline/rust-busting and a standard field strip and cleaning with no sight adjustments needed.
