Shotgun checkering

I dropped a loaded magazine on to my shotgun with a walnut stock… it chipped the checkering on the palm swell area.

Like one diamond is no longer there…

I spoke with a gun smith, there saying $350 to fix it. I feel like that’s a lot for a 4mm sized area but does anyone have any insight? Or a gunsmith to recommend?

For $350 I’d pay if it meant fixing that one checkering spot, raising a couple dents, and a cleaning.

Am I being cheap??? Lmk

A gunsmith would not be the person I’d send a stock to for repair. I’d go to a stock maker that does repairs. Here’s an option.

On the off chance that you'd conside new wood (that would need to be fitted) Cole offers some wood upgrades.
I've filtered it for 12 gauge right handed sets.

Do you realize that they may have to re-checker the whole panel that you damaged to sink that whole panel deeper into the stock to make the missing chunk of wood disappear?
It's not like they can re-checker only the "4mm area" and have it look right with the surrounding area unless they mix up some wood dust and glue and fill the damage and then re-checker.
I don't know if that's a thing that is even done though.

I understand that possibility. That strikes me as something similar to repainting an entire car door over one rock chip. Yes it is the correct way in theory, but there are plenty of people who spot repair instead.
