Corpus announced her "retirement" the same day she was ousted. Apparently, she will get to keep her medical benefits for her and her children.

She mentioned she will sue the city after the decision - not sure if that will play out well for her. LeRonne Armstrong (Oakland PD) is still trying to sue Oakland for unlawful termination years later...

I believe she has one offspring, a special needs young man in his mid teens. She will also keep her retirement of about $350k x 90% (3% 30 rule though not CALPERS- the County has its own retirement program). She's already (prior to retiring) filed a half dozen-ish lawsuits against the County (not city- typo?), and she's welcome to file as many and when she cares to (just like anyone can).

Knowing how F-ed up Oakland PD is, there is a chance they give her the job. It’s such a shame because there’s some good people working at OPD still. The city is hamstrung by residents who don’t live in reality. The residents of Oakland legitimately think their town is somewhat safe and diverse and people are needlessly ting on them. But everyone else who lives outside of Oakland realizes that it is among the 10 most dangerous cities in the US. There are towns in Mexico that are safer than Oakland. That’s saying a lot.

I say it kiddingly, but Financially it would be a smoking deal. She keeps 100% of her San Mateo retirement & Health benefits and would get a new/additional salary & bennies on top of that- since Oakland is a different retirement program (CALPERS I think). Essentially 2x pay, 100% of one retirement fund and add a 2nd one on top of it all.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Corpus’ name is put on the POST decertification list soon. They just added Laurie Smith, the former Santa Clara Sheriff to that list.

What we know: The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) suspended Corpus’ certification, citing findings that she abused her power while leading the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspension means Corpus cannot currently serve as a peace officer anywhere in California.

A couple hours ago Supervisors, (4-1) named Kenneth Binder, interim chief of police in Gilroy and former undersheriff of Santa Clara County, to serve out the remainder of Corpus’ term (through January 2029). He starts tonight at 5pm. Talk about hitting the ground running...

I am not hopeful for even modest improvements in their CCW program.
