Safe Moving

So for those that have had to move, i will be moving soon and i dont how i should move my safe. Its pretty heavy its a canon armory 48. its probably in the neighborhood about 800lbs or so. what did you guys do get a bunch of friends together to make the move or did you hire a moving company or professional safe movers? Im hesitant to hire someone just because i dont want random people knowing where i put it, but i dont trust my self and my friends to not drop and damage the safe. any feedback is appreciated thanks

also its not moving vary far, its going down the street about 1/8 of mile 2 stops signs away.

You could tilt it, get furniture movers under, and then push it the 2 blocks. Or you could push it to the back of a truck, lay it on its back, drive it and stand it back up on furniture movers to wheel it into the new place.

i helped a friend and his bro move his safe with straps and tilted it onto dollys. Getting it into the uhaul van was the hard part. We had to tilt it back into something so tall.

If you aren't going far, rent one of those lowboy mini trailers from home depot. couple of buddies. tilt the safe on to its side. moving blanket. moving dollys under and ratchet strap them to the safe so they don't slide.. roll that sucker right onto the trailer.

I called up Liberty Safes (where I had bought mine) and hired their guys to move them from San Jose to the East Bay, about 50 miles one way. I forgot what they charged but it was well worth it. Might be worth calling around to whoever sells safes and ask them. Tractor Supply? Sportsman’s Warehouse?

I rented a safe moving Dolly and hydraulic lowboy trailer (the deck lowers and extends to the ground) to move a Liberty 30 gun safe. i think it was $100 or so to rent both for 4 hours. Tied it down upright w some ratchet straps and drove city streets back to my house. When getting the safe to its final location after offloading from the trailer and dolly, we tilted it and put 1" schedule 80 pipe sections underneath like the Egyptians used to move heavy blocks. worked like a charm. me and my GF moved it by ourselves. I would do it myself again w out hesitation. if stairs, then call a pro or if you're adventurous, rent a stair climbing Dolly. that said, I had a 30 gun liberty professionally moved in and out of an apartment and there is no way I have the strength or expertise to maneuver one of those stair climbing Dolly. it took two huge guys who have done it many times before to make that happen.
Make sure you bolt it down wherever you end up placing it!

for the stairs and getting it from the apartment to my house was about $600 IIRC, but that was in 2019. I used Vince's Invincible Safe Movers out of the Sacramento area.

I’ve got a big boy (1400#s) and it was too heavy for the Harbor Freight appliance / furniture dolly’s to work reasonably well. I got a group of friends together and we went full Aztec using 8 or so steel pipes.

First you need to empty it, and then you can leverage the weight of the door to get the back end off the ground and slide a pipe under, and tilt it back using the pipe underneath as a pivot to get a pipe under the front. Then you move pipes from the back to the front as you rolling along the ground, and out the door, …. I then rented a truck with a hydraulic lift to move it from point A to point B.

If I did it again myself, I’d probably try a Rhino Dolly.

Get a refrigerator/appliance dolly with straps and rent a box truck with a lift gate. At 800 pounds I wouldn’t be worried about damaging the safe as much as I would be worried about your fingers and toes. Furniture blankets help to slide the safe on wood or tile floors. I’ve moved safes on five occasions, planning and manpower is everything.

When I ordered my last safe from Sun Welding, one guy got it off the truck and into my house. I then moved it into place with 1” PVC pipes.

What others have said works: Lift gate truck, pipes or dolly, and a friend or two. Easy-peasy.

you i was thinking the same thing, but i think the 1" steel pipe might be a better play.

Invite some friends, and get some ShoulderDolly moving straps (Amazon, Lowe's, etc.)

Throw in a few pizzas to feed up your friends, and together move dat safe. There will be a lot of cussing, but it can be done.
