I will definitely be very honest, tge problem is I honestly can't remember the details of every interaction that I've had with law enforcement. Can I get my records from somewhere that will show everything they see?

You may be able to get court records of your prior “activities”, but to what end?

Put in everything you can recall and approximate timeframes. You may miss some items, but that’s because you’ve put those things behind you and it’s been 30 years. The BIG deal is if you've done anything like this in the past 5 years.

Submitted my renewal late last night. Got the approval email, text and phone at 3 pm. Even quicker than last few times.

I didn't have quite that much, no controlled substance arrests but was open about potential previous drug use and have a misdemeanor battery charge from 20 years ago and got approved by Sacramento Sheriff. I got the impression that they do indeed value honesty above all else and there are also very specific things they are looking for regarding potential violent acts happening in recent years. You won't know until you try! But definitely put everything because they will find everything that was ever in a law enforcement database.

The 5 years aplies to residences and moving violations/accidents. If you read the rest it asks, "Have you EVER....". (emphasis added).
It can be brief: DUI; Jan 1973; Ventura County Superior Court; Fine + community service. They don't need a court transcript or your life story.

So it looks like I can request my records from the Sheriff's department. They need a love scan. I just did one for my FFL03 and COE. Do you know if I can use that same one?

That was sent to DOJ. SAC Sheriff doesn't have access to it. You could file a PRA with DOJ to get a copy (if they retained it).

Ugg... having to give up my Sac County due to moving to El Dorado County. Which is temporary for about 6 months as I'll most likely be moving into Placer Counter Permanently at the end of the summer. Fun fun, I guess! I feel so nekkid!!!

That doesn’t sound like a permanent change of address, but if you do report it, your license is good for 90 days after the change. See: CA PEN 26210(d).

Thank you. The permanent change will most likely be into Placer Co. though.

I've seen a few recommendations elsewhere, but they were from quite a while ago. I know a lot can change as staff changes, not to mention the changing requirements.

The Gun Range in North Highlands. Sam Johannes, if he’s running the class you want.

Knowledgeable and approachable trainer and coach. The other staff are also top notch and have been with the range for quite awhile.

If you haven’t seen it, the Course of Fire has been eased as of March 1.

I saw the course requirements were relaxed. But I also noticed they were a bit more vague compared to the old version. Didn't want to end up in a course where some instructor was making things more complicated by putting a weird spin on things.

Those guys are really about un-complicating the process. But understand, the instructors aren’t setting the COF. The Sheriff is and until now Sac has used the BSIS certification COF for armed guards. “Vague” provides some flexibility. This COF is far more reasonable than the BSIS which was designed for 6-round revolvers. This one centers on 5/10 - round volleys (not 2/3/6/12) which is more flexible for 5-shot revolvers and ten-round mags.

Sac Sheriff has never published constraints on CCW arms except for caliber limitations and rifle-caliber pistols.

In Feb, when I renewed my license, the instructor was touting the use of optics, and I qualified 2 guns with optics on stock factory slides.

There are a lot of opinions on CCW firearm modifications including aftermarket triggers. It basically comes down to risk mitigation. If you have to shoot someone you want to reduce the number of factors for evaluators to consider. Retaining the stock trigger is the easiest way to eliminate an entire path of investigation.
