S&W barrel length

I bought a 4” Shield and Shield Plus barrel with the intention of chopping the threads off for compliance, to fit a 4” slide, but I noticed it measures at about 4” with threads included. Is this normal for threaded barrels? S&W’s website says the barrel length is 4.46”.

I had assumed it would be a 4.46” barrel with threads included, but this thing as it is is just short of clearing the end of a 4” slide.

Updating to share that S&W confirmed the barrel was in fact the wrong barrel that had been sold. They are offering a full refund with paid return shipping.

Unfortunately, they’re stating their new system isn’t able to accommodate exchanging the barrel for the correct one, which is a shame since I had gotten it during a sale and made a trip out of state to pick it up, since they don’t ship to CA :cautious:

I saw those slides for sale a while back but then discovered that there aren't any barrels available for it... You could see if KKM will make you one, they will ship here

I had a warranty with S&W. My local FFL handled it with the local S&W rep. I just had to provide them with the info. It was taken of in less than two weeks. Maybe your local FFL can do the same for you

Interesting, I’ll give it a shot and ask my FFL. Thanks!

To be honest, it would be much easier just buying a complete Performance Center slide when it goes on sale. I went with my way mainly because I wanted the 4” slide for my Shield Plus, without ports.

Getting the barrel is the biggest issue, S&W doesn’t sell it and the only aftermarket seller I found has been sold out for who knows how long. I dug up threads from other forums that were posted years ago, mentioning the same difficulties in getting the barrel.
