Question Ruger American 7.62 x 39: is expensive ammo worth it?

Buy some fancy ammo and take a yoga class and see what comes of it.
My employer used to have yoga classes in the gym, a couple days a week, so I joined up, thinking it would help me stay flexible and limber, etc.

Pleasantly surprised to find, on the first day, that 90% of the class was female. I picked a spot to lay out my mat at the back of the class, figuring I didn't want to be in front of people so they could not see how "lame" I was at yoga.

OMG! "Downward Dog" was my favorite pose! Beautiful luscious views, everywhere I looked! :p

personally I like to be in the front of the class so everyone has to look at me downward hanging bog was my favorite position

Speaking from experience; my RAR doesn't like the more expensive ammo more necessarily. Cheap Fiocchi ammo has given me some of the better groups I've had from it while Winchester white box was some of the worse. It's really just a matter of finding whichever ammo yours runs best.

Mine does have a few modifications, admittedly, a Magpul stock, timney trigger, and an AR10 muzzle brake. The Fiocchi gets it just to 1" at 100y though.

Winchester white box is absolutely atrocious for accuracy, even though they're cheaper Fiocci and PMC and similar are much much better. The only thing worse than white box is wolf steel case.

if you want it to be accurate it absolutely make a difference. If you just want to shoot cans at 20 yards then no. Milsurp ammo is extremely inaccurate. If you want mag dump ammo it's fine (although you are on a bolt platform I see), if you want cheaper ammo you should look into reloading, the cheapest factory I would shoot is probably pmc bronze, that stuff is actually decent and the brass is good for reloading.
M67 is milsurp and it's accurate

So, I am ready for my Ruger American but wondering if ammo really makes a huge difference? I have some standard wolf FMJ, Yugo Brass and some PPU ammo ready. Thanks
A fantastic ranch rifle. The gen 2 is perfect imo

Depends how you define it but the question is, will shooting better ammo yield better results? And the answer is yes. From a modern equipment perspective shooting a bolt gun with a scope I would be pretty bored shooting five inch groups on paper at 100 yards. When you reach out further with that you are gonna be sad.

I didn't find m67 better than Hornady. It is corrosive. That's why I haven't shot my stash in years. There is always some spot you miss that will decay.

What to sell it? PAX

Hornady is top tier sh!t for sure - M67 is the good AK/SKS ammo you stash away for later but it definitely IS more accurate than say...Wolf...Tula..Norma...etc

Milsurp (M67, 7N6, M4, 7N10,etc) is much better quality and more accurate than wolf/tula/red Army standard, etc.....

cheers

Agreed. Better ammo = tighter groups 100%

Hard to compete with Hornady match grade :)

but yo There are not many bolt action precision shooters using 7.62x39 cartridge... that being said, i'll take milsurp ammo over sh!tty steel case all day

I get good results out to about 200 yards with M67 (out of an SKS)

And 7N6 is SUPERB (f you can find it nowadays)

cheers

For sure, mil spec ammo is perfect for period correct mil spec rifles and and SKS is a lot of fun. I do think that with the mechanical accuracy potential of a bolt action like the RAR you leave a lot on the table, theyre pretty darn accurate for the price!
