I’ve recently joined the USPSA, currently competing in the single stack minor. I’m considering shooting single stack major and have been looking at the Rock Island Armory Ultra Match. Found it currently on sale for $599, so seems like a good deal. Does anyone have an opinion, review or helpful feedback on it?

I had one a few years ago I foolishly traded away. Great gun for the money out shoots more expensive guns.

Rock Island has horrible warranty policy and QA.

If you ever need to get your RIA warrantied repair, you need to send via FFL and receive via FFL. If the FFL charges to ship and receive, you eat the charge.

Question, Did you buy the Rock Island 1911 from a FFL? And then warranty through the same FFL? The FFL's I have dealt with handle the shipping at their cost if under warranty.

If you move to another city/county/state, lifetime warranty becomes moot unless you can travel all the way back to the ffl you bought it from.

Their website says you mail the gun to them for warranty service, but that wording has been wrong for so long (many years), since they have required you to mail via ffl. If they can't even update their warranty language on their website for soo many years, you can see just how good their QA really is.

I had to send a warranty repair twice because the first time, their bag piece of gunsmith thought he could just oil it to darken their F-ups to hide it instead if fixing it and sending it back.

RIA sucks ass. Their shotguns and 22lrs blow as well.

My Springfields work great. Service is top notch. You ship the gun to them, not the middle man.

My 1911 mil spec had an issue. I shipped it to them, (they paid shipping) and they went through the entire gun. I got custom shop work done, for free.

Yea, i have Springfields now. Both 1911 loaded/target. 9 and 45. Forged goodness.

I have an obligation as long as I am a gunowner to on RIA as I have the right to as they screwed me with their F-ups. I have story and pics to back it up.

I gave them a chance to reimburse me for at least 1 shipping because their piece of gunsmith's lazy F-up, but they refused and acknowledged that they clean the gun as one of their "repair service." Meaning they hire gunsmiths to clean guns not fix them.

Mind if I ask what was wrong with your RIA? Which model did you have?

The double stack mil spec.
Cast frame mold F-ed.
Magazine was way too tight and hard to fit. No mag drop on release.

First time I sent it, they just oiled it and sent back.

Second time, (i knew they couldn't fix and they knew probably from first time I sent it, it couldn't be fixed.)
So they sent new frame but old slide. Sold that piece of gun with piece of mfg. branding. Never buy RIA anymore and I will on them any chance I get. F- them.

Thanks for the heads up, That’s total dog . I’m thinking about getting a SA Target or TRP instead. Any experience with either?

I have SA Loaded 45 black, and Loaded Target 9mm stainless. Both single stacks, I'm never selling. Really much better quality of build, seems tighter on slide to frame fit, the parkerizing is much better feel than RIA parkerizing, and fits my mechanixgear size M~L hand quite nicely for better followup shots.

I don't really need a flashlight so non-railed or railed didn't matter, non-railed has that a lil more classic look. I still can't seem to get used to red dot on handguns, so even for bad aged eyes of mine, the iron sights is still a relief to me.

True. But in the back of my mind, I figure I just get it warrantied since I heard so many good things about RIA CS. Hoo was I wrong and their warranty return repair process changed since I bought it, going from mail it yourself to needs FFL to do it.

Welp, I pick up my Rock Island Pro Ultra Match 45 on Saturday. i will report here how it shoots.

Here is what they advertise:

Picked up the RIA 1911 match today. Made a brief visit to the range. Fired 100 rounds of my reloads and 25 rounds of Blazer Brass .45 ACP with 230 grain bullets. There were no jams and the pistol is accurate.

IMO it is the best deal on the roster at $599, that is now that the Glock Gen 3's are no longer available for $499 or less.

But remember, YMMV

I have a plain Jane 1911 A1 GI, 38 super with a 9mm barrel and a complete 10mm upper. It has been flawless. I should hit 10k rounds very soon, consistently shooting full 9mm, full 10mm Blue dot loads and power pistol 38 super rounds. I also barely clean the gun. Never had any issues with it at all.
