So I am waiting for my VP9L to get out of jail and was looking for the best option to drive with it in my open backed SUV. I have a backpack I want to use as a range bag, but it doesn't have lockable zippers. So I would like to find a soft single pistol case that really just needs to hold the gun. Mags can just go in the backpack.

1. Locks
2. Can fit the VP9L with an optic mounted

A lot of the soft cases are envelope types, is that safe with an optic on your gun? I would think they would slide around a bit which I don't love. I would rather my gun was pinned down with velcro or eggcrate padding. Examples include the Saviors, the Allens, the 5.11.

Some do have elastic straps, but will often put the pistol strap so the slide is right against the clamshell fold, meaning no optic.

My short list right now is just the

1. CASEMATIX Locking Pistol Case
2. Plano Stealth EVA
3. AceTac Mobility is the current favorite

But I want to know if I am overthinking this or if there is a better, more minimal solution.

I wanted something a bit slimmer to throw into the backpack. I ended up buying a Helikon-Tex 2 pistol bag figuring that it is modular and will have plenty of room....
