All my PVD parts with a polished finish (barrels, hammers, triggers) still look shiny and aren't showing any scratches, perhaps due to how much oil I use to coat them. The PVD parts with a matte finish (magwell, screws) also look great even with all the abuse from tools and reloads.

$525 is pretty good for a complete gun for DLC and anodizing. You might get a cheaper quote from STS for PVD because they won't work on aluminum parts. I like PVD due to the color and finish variations. If you're going for a single color on the entire gun then I'd go with Vulcan's quote - DLC is thinner and more scratch resistant.

Yea, I think I'll do that, although I saw someone else's finished platypus with hard chrome slide, magwell and small parts with DLC barrel and anodized frame and it looks pretty darn good. Now I'm debating all black vs something like on the picture below
