Pistol Range - How Do You Prep Your Session?

Just hit the S&W mags with your purse.

For the sig mags... those guns usually come with 2 mags. So in order to have 6 total mags you would need to buy 4 more. $50 per mag = $200. Just take care of them and they should work long-term. Magpul also makes metal mags for certain Sigs which are about $30 each if I recall correctly. Just get those.
 
When I was a full member at an outdoor range (West End Gun Club), there’s no time limit, so I’d load there.

Besides, I’d usually bring *way* more guns than I could shoot in a day (‘Oh, haven’t shot that in a while!! Oh, haven’t shot *that* one in a while. Oh man, what about *this* one?) Pre-loading would be too much extra work, haha!!

Now I have a home range, so I just load here. Wait, if I load here, is that pre-loading or not? Haha!!

Mags per gun:

Pistols: Minimum of six per firearm, unless odd or rare (e.g. Model 41-1 .22 Short mags are extinct and expensive). I have dozens of Glock-pattern mags.

Rifles: Minimum of four per firearm, unless odd or rare. I have dozens of AR/AK-pattern mags.

They came with 2? I had no idea.... Wow thanks for all your wisdom and I didn't know I could get knock offs for cheaper..

My brother dropped those in the muck on the way to a day of shooting. Told him he couldn't put those in my car. If your ears itch after using them, now you know why. ;)

I mean bro you're the one in here complaining about the cost of mags. If you think that $50 for a necessary part is expensive then you're in the wrong hobby.
 
1. Do you preload all your mags and just run through those and wrap it up? Preload if I remember the day before.
2. How many mags per pistol do you have? Six in rotation, two spares.
3. How many mags do you think one should have per pistol? Six, I alternate between two sets of three. Gives you a bit more time between cleaning sessions.
4. Do you reload at the range? Take a break? Yes, I try to reload as fast as I can at the range. It takes about a minute for three mags with the Uplula. Trying to keep the session to under 60 minutes.

Yeah I’m the clown for recommending cheaper mags and getting sarcasm in response. If you can’t afford mags and refuse to buy cheaper ones I’m not sure what exactly you’re actually looking for. Are you looking to start a muh greedy corporation circle jerk or something?
 
I load my mags at the range. I normally use 6 mags for my drills, even though i have more.

I'll start by loading ten rounds in the six mags, two mags with one round and the rest with two. I then do timed 1R1 drills from concealed.

I start with one mag with one round in the gun and a mag with two rounds in the mag carrier on my MSP PRO FLX. Shoot the 1R1 string, put another mag with two rounds in the mag carrier. Do another 1R1. Put another mag with two rounds in the mag carrier. Do another. Then finally put the mag with one round in for the last string.

Repeat four more times and I'm through 50 rounds, but not so quickly that I burn through the box of ammo in no time.

I'll load the next mags to cover the next set of drills, maybe 6 per mag to do 2 quick shots per target, aiming for quick Alpha hits. That will quickly get me through the next box of ammo

After that, I may be on to my next gun with 6 more mags for it and similar drills.

If I have more time and ammo, I may go to my third gun on my CCW to get the same drills in.

Even though the Magpul are cheaper they seem to be superior mags. I detest my original p365 mags.
 
Make sure I eat a good meal an hour or two before to minimize shakes. Pick up my pistol case and bag and go.

Edit: I do reload a few times at the range typically, but single stack 1911s, so not really a chore. I’ll shoot between 50 and 200 between 9mm and 45ACP.

When I get home from the range, I strip and clean everything, re-organize range bag, and load up all my magazines. I keep 5+ mags per pistol for target shooting. For a few of them, I keep 2-3 mags loaded with defense ammo as well.
