I was looking to build a P365 and just wanted to buy the FCU-only. But I Just spoke with my local FFL and he's telling me that they're not selling the FCU by itself anymore because they've had several people come back and tell them the Sheriff's department won't allow them to register it on their CCW license because the FCU is DROS'd as 0-caliber and the CCW card requires the gun to have a registered caliber. Is this true that the FCU has to be registered as 0-caliber? anyone experience a similar issue?

P365 FCU can't be registered on CCW??

Short answer is it depends on you issuing agency. Most require the gun info in the state system to match what you have. You can update the info in CFARS but who knows how long that actually takes....

I’ve run into this at an FFL in OC, who told me a frame or FCU without an upper must be DROSed as “0” (essentially multi-cal) since they would need a barrel in order to enter an actual caliber. And obviously for a CCW, each handgun’s caliber must be listed, and when going through the process I was told the info on your CCW needs to match CFARS. Worst case, you could use a pawn shop once you complete your build to pawn it then re-DROS to yourself and get the caliber updated.

You have to qualify with any gun going on your CCW you can't register an FCU bc you cant shoot it.
Thanks for the input fellas. Spoke to another FFL and it’s definitely a no go in California for building a P365 and putting it on your CCW. Only possible option is to have someone buy the FCU and built it to my spec, then PPT it to me as a complete firearm but that’s just too much of a hassle.

Yes I usually see complete ca p365 slides with barrel and return spring go for up to $200
And the complete ca p365xmacro slides with barrel and return spring go for up to $300.
I may be the minority, but I prefer the california sig p365/p365 xmacro slide to the free state ones. The LCI is minimal and I can run my finger across it when in the holster, on my body, through my shirt to confirm I chambered a round. I carry aiwb with a romeo x optic.
I have a free state p365 and a ca p365 on my ccw permit and the free state one just gathers dust in the safe. When I renew, I'll put 2 ca ones on my permit.

yeah, I just DROS'd a 365 and bought the Radian ramjet along with the XMacro lower. just need to order a red dot and the Ramm Tactical trigger and I'm set
