Hello, I submitted my application for OCSD initial application in June. I completed everything except the CCW 16 hour course. I did the live scan before the submission of the app. Should I just wait until I get the interview to do the CCW course? Thanks yall

Is there any reason your app would need additional scrutiny or that you'd be denied? If there's some doubt, maybe wait. If not, you can do the training within the window (6 months I think)? I'd just work backwards from your interview date by a few weeks just in case you end up wanting to change what guns are qualified with and recorded on the cert/reflected on your eventual permit.

They ask for way too much info on the specific firearm configurations during the paperwork part of certifying or for mods for my taste. Artifex is preferred, personally.

Yes, for part of it (like the first 8 of the 16 hour initial training), but that's doesn't really change the second day range requirement which is the main thing and usually the other half of the instruction. Online portion is good if you're busy, can't get time off work, or learn better that way/already know everything they're going to be teaching. Otherwise some do prefer/benefit from in-person.

Artifex is online training module, like 4-5 hours of a slide deck and topics/questions, then a live-fire range day to qualify and certify all the firearms being submitted.

I personally did that part first. I didn’t want to be unprepared

They are super quick for renewals , submitted payment today too

Mods are pretty fast still as well. Below 90 days (closer to 80ish recently) despite it being a lower priority than processing new and renewal applicants.

Once the permit duration is extended to 3 years hopefully wait times drop further.
