Optics on CCW

I've had one red dot optic fail on a gun before, and it was a cheapo Bushnell TRS-25 on an AK.

I've had the front sight fly off of several pistols over the years.

Man you can’t buy hi points.

Because I want to be cool like everyone else. But no seriously, I'll try to take any advantage I can with me. But truly, at the moment, it's causing more annoyances than anything else. I'm happy to just be able to carry finally. Been carrying for 8 months. Irons only.

I enjoy my P365 concealability and accuracy with iron sights.

I do not, but not because it does not interest me; I just haven’t put enough rounds through my pistols with the Red Dot to feel comfortable carrying it yet.

I tried my first pistol optic with my P365. I did it in part because there was a huge discount on the optic at the LGS and the Sig had the slide already cut from the factory. I like it but don't think I will add it to any of my other carry guns anytime soon.

It certainly took some getting used to and I have trained with it to get more proficient. That being said I'm sending the optic back to Vortex as we speak because the glass cracked. I have 3 tiny cracks at the edge of the glass. Vortex thinks casings hitting the optic caused the damage. They are covering it under warranty.

Been carrying for almost two years…P365 Macro X Comp in a Vedder Pocket Holster. I only use iron sights and the comfort level is pretty good. There is a little noticeable weight difference vs my other pocket (cash/credit cards). AIWB was not comfortable for me 5’9” 180, even with trying to add custom wedges. My Tier 1 holster is in my closet, still brand new.

I enjoy the ease of a pocket holster, just make sure to have deep pockets if you go this route.

Yes and no. Having a red dot is nice. Sometimes what you wear does not allow you to have one. In my case, I wear business casual with shirt tucked in at work.

Hot take, but most people aren't good enough with their red dot to take any advantage of any performance it would realistically give someone over irons in the prototypical self-defense situation. All the top pro shooters even mention how most people are actually even slower with a red dot at closer ranges than with irons. For CCW, it really doesn't matter. For duty, yes I prefer to have a red dot on my pistol due to the nature of things I'll be doing and potentially getting into. But I really wouldn't feel "outgunned" with irons either. Since the sighting system has little to do with a person's shooting performance, I prefer to keep my CCW an easy "set it and forget it" pistol with less failure points.
