I’ll keep an eye out for a pistol clinic from Appleseed in the Bay Area, would be great to do with my spouse!

Right now, the closest is the one is in the Sacramento area at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center on September 26-27. I'm in the Bay Area too and went out to Sac Valley for a different kind of event and stayed a couple nights in Jackson, because there was no way I was going to do a round trip in a day. There's another community where you can stay in that area that is supposed to have a kind of wine country vibe, which might be nice to try. I know that the shoot boss in Concord is certified to hold pistol clinics and has talked about maybe holding a pistol event next year in Concord or another Bay Area range. I'd like to take the class myself, and I hope he does set it up next year.

"Effective 8/8/2025, Project Appleseed has temporarily suspended the SIG-Sauer P320/M17/M18 (all variants) in our Pistol Clinics."

Was looking at the Sacramento one in SEP... wow.... are they banning Glocks next?

I saw the one in Sac, Sloughhouse/Jackson is a hike - if no pistol clinics come to the Bay Area in early/mid 2027, maybe we’ll check out one of the other NorCal clinics and make a weekend trip of it. We’re signed up for the rifle one in Concord in October, so have that to look forward to!

You’ll have a good time at that October event in Concord. It’s a great crew. I’ve done almost all of my Appleseed events in concord with that group, and it’s always a good time. I probably won’t be at that one myself because I’m going to Sacramento for a 200-yard Rimfire Rifle event.

I didn’t follow the issue that closely, so I’m not sure what this is about, but didn’t the p320 have a safety issue?

As much a safety issue as any extremely popular service gun like Glock had

At least I have other guns I can bring but seems crazy to ban a military service weapon in active use.

I don’t know anything about the reasoning. I just know that as I was preparing posts for this kind of pistol events on other platforms a few weeks ago, I ran them past the shoot boss, and the only feedback was that I had to add that in. I didn’t ask why.

lol. Lately it’s been a very hot topic where threads collapse into a debate about the P320 and whether the concerns are legitimate or sensationalism.

Here I am, not a care in the world, whistling a happy tune, cheerfully strolling along, straight into a minefield. 😇🎶🚶‍♂️💣💥💀

Eh, it's just Appleseed being Appleseed....They banned the S&W 22 rimfire MP15 a while back for similar "safety" reasons.

Although, didn't a couple ranges also ban the Sig from IDPA or other pistol matches?

They did then walked it back after it was proven the airmen lied and went to prison for manslaughter

So it's totally an Appleseed thing then?

Edit: Appears so. It's under the pistol equipment considerations:

It was several years before they let S&W 22LR MP15's back due to a few rifles firing OOB causing split cases. Was there ever a recall or factory modification on MP15 22's? Then they totally banned minors from any training in CA for a while. I understand having to protect the organization, but I think Appleseed is way too cautious at times.

I went to sign up for the pistol class and the form showed only rifle. Do I just fill that out and buy my tickets?

I’m glad to hear you want to sign up!

This link should take you to the right page, https://appleseedinfo.org/location/?locationid=104&eventid=11312
It should say:

Red Bluff, CA - Tehama Shooters Association

October 10 - October 11
This is a Pistol Clinic. The Pistol Clinic teaches the fundamentals of pistol/handgun safety, accuracy, and many other topics.

If that’s not what you see, let me know, and I will give you a different link that bypasses the info page, straight to the registration page. Generally they want me to link to the info page, but there is some important info about the event there. But as you’ve seen, there is also some confusing old boilerplate language about rifles that is confusing and not relevant to the event. I’ve mentioned it to the people that handle that, but unfortunately it’s probably only going to be fixed next year when new events are posted, because once they make the info pages and post them, apparently it’s difficult to change. Sorry about that. When you are ready to register, click Registrr Now near the top (the almost illegible red text on black oval, another thing to be fixed next year! Lol!)

Let me know if there are any more issues with the registration process.

I think it’s probably them being very cautious. I have a couple things that I personally think fall into the over-cautious category, but it’s not my decision, so I mention it once and then let it go. Unfortunately, I think sometimes someone makes a decision out of an abundance of caution, and then the issue doesn’t get revisited when new info comes out, and maybe this is like that. For now, that’s the rule, and hopefully it doesn’t become an obstacle for someone who wants to take the class. If you do have a P320 and no other option, let me know, and I will pass that info on. I’m not saying it will result in an exception or a policy change, but it would be good info for our leadership to consider.

I was talking to the shoot boss in Concord recently about dates for events for next year. He is definitely planning on hosting pistol clinics in Concord next year, probably one in spring and one in fall. No dates yet, but it's something to keep an eye out for.
