No More Radian Ramjets

comps are a waste of money but red dots? That's essential, it's so much faster and more accurate

Hear me brothers and sisters
Do not waste your hard earned money on overpriced parts.
I bring you news, Aimsurplus has drop in single port barrels that do the exact same as a ramjet without any modification done to the pistol.
They have them for most Glock models and Sig 365s
You can still use your same holsters

STOP PAYING $400 spend it on ammo instead
I have both Radian Ramjet/Afterburner and JTT barrels, actually have done video comparisons on my channel.

While I believe the JTT is the best value in a "comp" by FAR, to say they do the same thing is a bit dishonest.

The JTT is absolutely fantastic, especially at the price point, but it doesn't mitigate muzzle flip as effectively as the Radian Ramjet/Afterburner.

When shooting side by side with the same platform it's a noticeable difference in favor of the Ramjet.

If cost is no concern, get a Ramjet. If you're on a budget by all means get a JTT. I have JTT's on several of my pews.

With the Radian you get a match grade barrel and a very well thought out and designed comp. With the JTT you will still get a quality piece, but it also does not fit as tightly as the Ramjet and some folks have feed issues until broken in. I read about that and decided to simply polish the barrel and feed ramp prior to use with the JTT and have had no issues since. Both are solid options. If I only had one pew to worry about it would be a Ramjet/Afterburner all day.

But then my guns look stupid lol

Ramjet's look lite years better than that IMO.
The arguement can be said for most gun things..... don't paint your gun...buy ammo.... don't upgrade it...buy ammo.... don't waste money on a red dot...buy ammo....

Very true, I always say I shoot a 💩 ton but I also like buying things

Idk if I’d go that far to say they are completely a waste of money otherwise we wouldn’t use them in competition if there was no advantage. But you have to be able to actually shoot fast to really make it worth the money. I think in general you may be right for less experienced shooters. But if you know how to run a gun they aren’t a waste imo.

I am very leery of AIM Surplus barrels. Some are heat treated, some are not.

I know there are probably thousands of them in circulation and I've never heard of one kabooming. But... if my son is shooting a gun and having small powerful explosions taking place 18" or so from his face... the barrel is gonna be factory spec heat treated.

I know these say "nitride finish"... but the basic fact of the matter is that if you are paying $60 for a barrel... some corners have been cut somewhere. Does "nitride finish" mean it went through an ACTUAL full up nitriding process? Who knows. And, you can find other AIM Surplus barrel types for even cheaper than AIM Surplus prices on ebay. Based on markings and profile, they are the exact same barrel. I don't think for a second that AIM Surplus is paying any special attention to what they are buying or how it's made. Just buying in bulk from wherever the ebay people are.

FWIW, I own an AIM Surplus barrel and put about 700 rounds through it with no issues other than some odd feedramp wear, still in my parts box... but I replaced with used OEM Glock barrel.

I have large hands so I already have difficulty with small pistols.

Whenever I’m shooting my X-Macro I always get at least 1 comment on how it shoots so flat.

As for my 43X, even with aggressive grip tape I was having to regrip every 3-4 shots because of muzzle flip. After adding the Ramjet it’s a totally different gun, on par with my X-Macro - which also needed some grip improvements. I haven’t tried JTT but I want a quality barrel, first.

Even on 9mm comps have made a huge difference for me especially on compact platforms.

I mean as far as USPSA open division is essentially dead and carry optics and limited optics are by far the most popular divisions, for the most part people don't shoot comps in competition.

That’s not my point though, my point is that they aren’t a complete waste of money if you know how to shoot. Take a high level shooter and have them shoot the same gun comped and not and they will undoubtedly be quicker with the comped version.

I don't really agree, the difference in very minor and the tradeoff is it's louder so worse for self defense indoors for sure, and worse for training because you aren't learning recoil control. I have shot subcompacts in matches and it's never been the thing holding me back, it's a technique issue that needs to be resolved if you can't shoot a small 9mm. Unless of course you are disabled or have another underlying issue. Grip is about the right pressure more than hard pressure, you don't have to have it completely clamped down to shoot it fast and accurately.

I totally get what you’re saying as far as fundamentals being a min requirement but that’s why I said high level shooter. You’re basically saying if your fundamentals are sound then a comp is worthless. I disagree with that sentiment, can I shoot fast and accurate without a comp? Yes absolutely I’ve been doing it for years. But does a comp coupled with my solid fundamentals make me faster than without it? My answer is yes undoubtedly it does.

I own both the JTT and the Ramjet for my 43x. The JTT for the money is hard to beat. Performance wise the ramjet wins for sure but not sure it’s worth the extra $300+. I would say the JTT takes the edge off the 43x and the ramjet makes it feel like a totally different gun.
I've got JTT for my G19 and my G43x, not sure how much difference it truly makes, it does not seem louder at all.

I also have the FN509 Comp which definitely has more impact, but I have to feed it 147 grain, otherwise FTF every other round.

I said it's a waste of money, because I can already shoot less than .2 splits at ten yards. There's no world where going faster than that matters, even in a match setting it's almost never your split times that matter. You are talking about what, .03 seconds faster? Like literally that's the time difference. It matters more for people that lack fundamentals because it reduces recoil but again it's working against you to train without that recoil. There's more downsides than upsides.
