Nguyen vs Bonta, 1 in 30 stay is blocked

AG Bonta doesn't have very much to do with this. The handgun 1-in-30 is from 1999, when Gray Davis was governor. The expansion to handguns is from a few years ago, but I don't remember whether it was under Governor Brown or Newsom. Both were passed by the legislature with significant majorities. If one put them to a plebiscite, they would win overwhelmingly (remember prop. 63).

AG Bonta has the unenviable position of defending them in court. And his staff did a pretty bad job of that this week. I haven't watched the arguments yet (too much to do), but judging by the internet chatter, one wonders whether the AG is playing to lose, they did so badly.

Honestly, the "go to hell" is uncalled for. Legal matters benefit from decorum.
 
So does this mean the 1-in-30 rule is not in effect at this moment? I’m no lawyer, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
 
Never thought about this, but does the 1in30 apply to private transfers?

That would have changed in January 2025, they took PPT exemption away. It is also pretty incredulous that Jerry Yen argued to the 9th that citizens still have other means to get guns and referenced PPT.

He made a barrage of stupid claims, such as someone can borrow a gun from a friend, instead of purchasing it, etc. I wonder if he's the worst one at CADOJ
