New to hunting (Zone A) recommendations on closest place to hunt deer/turkey/boar

Hi everyone, I just purchased my hunting license and I seem to be getting confused on huntable land. Just looking for some advice and maybe some seasoned knowledge about some of the areas nearest to the bay. It doesn’t seem like I can get a straight answer from Google. I’d like to be able to keep it as close to home as possible, but I understand we don’t have a lot of land here to hunt. If anyone’s had any experience hunting in this area, I’d love to know where and the general approach that you have to take. Any private land would be helpful as well. Thank you in advance.

This is just my humble opinion but pigs and Turkey are very hard on public land in CA because the few areas that are open around the bay have a buttload of people and they just stay away. Deer are also hard in CA but if you get as deep in the backcountry as possible you can probably have some luck, I would look into backpacking into the national forests like Yolla Bolly.

Download an app like OnX or GoHunt, you can overlay the zones on a map and see public lands that fall within them. As said above, you're going to be limited around the Bay Area. I think OnX's tech is better, but GoHunt is helpful with draws and tags which can be complicated to learn on your own.

Ok so I do have OnX, there’s a lot of areas that are color coded that don’t seem to be huntable. How do you tell colors apart and where they intersect etc. if it’s to much trouble no worries I just can’t find anything online about how to tell

Yellow is BLM and should be huntable but you have to click into each section to get the full info

We used to live in the hills above Hayward and every year the wild pigs would tear up our neighborhood lawns. Just couple years ago, the California Waterfowl association teamed up with California Dept of Fish and Wildlife and organized a group hunt, one year was bow hunting only, next year was rifle hunting, both on state and private ranch lands. You might want to search for those hunts.
