New addition to the stable - PDP Compact

Their D spring is rated for duty use and supposed to be fully reliable. I actually went with the V spring in mine and have not experienced any cycling issues. Usually running 124gr FMJ. Though if I were going CCW it I’d probably step it up to at least the D spring.

Stock weight. Only difference is the guide rod being steel.

How easy is it to change the trigger on the echelon? The pdp trigger is so good, would love to have the echelon have a crisper trigger.

It’s a quick thing. As easy as a Glock trigger shoe. I got mine from red tag supply for $85.

the trigger shoe doesn't change that at all but there is a spring kit and a sear sold by Powder river that will change the feel. The trigger shoe will eliminate some of the takeup but it's just a lever and will not change the way it breaks

A trigger shoe can only change the leverage and the placement of the trigger, so it can change the feel as much as those things will change the trigger but the interaction between the sear and the firing pin and the weight of the trigger will be unaffected by just the shoe. The echelon has 3 springs, the sear, the sear safety and the safety plunger so lightening those will change the weight and the feel quite a bit and you can take it to another level by changing the sear itself

I love my echelon. It has the mischief commander grip and the tyrant trigger, otherwise it’s factory. It’s not my carry gun but it’s my favorite. Prior to that my cz sp01 was my favorite. At the end of the day, for me, a pistol is a pistol. I do not compete so there’s that. But somehow it all comes together in the eschelon. I imagine that’s a lot about personal preference

Yes, it makes a significant difference in the recoil impulse and the heavier steel guide rod also adds some weight help with the notorious PDP muzzle flip. I was skeptical at first, and while the PDP is a bit snappy because of its top-heavy design, I was always ok with it because it gets back to zero very quickly, but the ZRTS does make it much more enjoyable to shoot.

I haven’t seen any decrease in reliability, but ZR themselves do advise not to use the “V” spring in a duty weapon as that spring may be too light for defensive situations.

I’ve seen some accounts of it taking a mag or two for the spring to break in and then running smoothly from there. Mine ran without any hangups from the get-go, so I guess it’s not an across the board issue. Might be worth running some more rounds through it to see if it has any effect on yours. But as I mentioned in another post, if it were a CCW setup for me, I’d probably go with either the D spring or OEM spring weight just to eliminate all doubt.

I decided to bite the bullet tonight and remove the mag disconnect from the Echelon. The only reason really was to let the mags drop freely. It doesn't bother me to have one but not letting the mag drop freely was definitely not for me. The PDP already drops mags even with the mag disconnect, so I'm going to leave it on for now.

I'm going to try to take the guns back to the range tomorrow to make sure the Echelon is good and to put more rounds through the PDP.

Took it out to the range... the trigger is as promised, really good and crisp. One thing that I noticed with one if the mags, when full, it did not go into the gun as easily as it should, requiring a really hard slap. Maybe that breaks in after a while.

Unfortunately, still no plate so no optic during this session.

Now, the NDZ recoil guides/springs...it really made a difference on the Echelon 4.0C. With the added mass up front, the muzzle flip was noticeably less. Loved it. However, it didn't seem to make a difference with the PDP Compact. I need to shoot it more to get a better feel for the gun as a whole.

I also should have brought the other backstraps with me so that I could try firing with the different sizes. Next time.

All in all, very very nice gun. I'm glad to add it to my CCW.

No the 4.0

I was looking at that MM grip module for the compact, it's very tempting but the whole point in me getting this was a small light ccw. But man it looks nice. But i.also have a real 3" 1911 I don't need a 1911-ish. Or do I?
