I went to get some d.o.p.e data at 2 different yardage . 661 & 801 yards .

I have wrote down mil adjustments in order to hit those targets and came back to see if I can find a ballistic data to match it up .

I came decently close enough , but not enough to keep . Im not lookin for 100% accuracy data , but no matter which setting I change ( velocity , scope height , temperature , etc etc ) both wont get close .

At this point , I would just get real data shooting at different yardage and keep the data as I go .
 
Not a fan of Hornady at all. I have had to tweak the axial form factor in some guns. Also make sure you have accurate environmental data in there. You should be able to zero. Shoot around 800 yards and make the elevation corrections needed. Then only adjust the muzzle velocity to true your data. You only adjust BC at a range that the bullet is transsonic

Does your ballistic calculator allow you to enter ALL the variables like temperature and air density and angle-of-fire?
Did you accurately collect all that data when you were shooting?
If you started at closer distances and then moved to further distances, the day probably warmed up and your shortange dope will be based on different weather than your longer range dope was.
You have to account for ALL of the variables.
You won't get one ballistic solution to be accurate for two different sets of weather conditions or different angles-of-fire which is likely your issue if you have properly accounted for everything else.

I own a Zeiss rz1000 scope. It's a caliber specific reticle. I ran the rifle and wrote the dope. Sometimes you gotta put in the work man. Messed up thing is I was cleaning out the house and accident;y threw my book out and had to do a new one. LOL PITA? Yes, an excuse to go shoot more absolutely.

This isn't hard. If you drop your data in here I'm sure we can get you close enough to get hits and true from there if you have a decent zero.
 
The hornady app is perfectly fine, it gives me the same dope as Applied Ballistics within .1 mil past 1000. There's a lot of things it could be, is your barrel new? You may see velocity changes in the first 200 rounds. Did the temperature change? Your velocity will change due to factory ammo using non temp stable powder. There's so many things it could be but it's almost certainly not the app. You should really try to buy or borrow a chronograph and then make sure your zero is actually zero. A half inch off at 100 is like .3 mils which is a lot at distance.
 
If you don’t have actual muzzle velocity from a chronograph you’ll have to adjust it to slide the data around.

The apps are a waste unless you have every variable pinned down.

Just shoot your gun and write down the hold overs. That’s also a dope chart.
 
.The apps all have to be trued. Even if the speed is exactly right, your specific bbl engraved the rifling differently and affects bc slightly. Your Bari sensor is different than mine. The apps indicate statistical probability. You always need to tune them.

Error above or below waterline at 600 will allow you to correctly estimate speed and tweak the data for 800. Line up the velocity first. Turn off coriolis. Use actual elevation, pressure and temp if you can't get da. Then shoot at 800. The bullet is telling the truth. If the app is wrong, lower the bc until it aligns.

Does a chron make things easier? Sure. Will perfect inputs help? Yes. But you will still need to tune the app to your combo and update it every time you change ammo lots.

The app is fine. Life isn't a video game.

This is just wrong. The apps all have to be trued. Estimate of speed (take off 25fps for every inch under 24") will be close enough to get hits out to about 600yds.

Error above or below waterline at 600 will allow you to correctly estimate speed and tweak the data for 800. Does a chronic make things easier? Sure. Will perfect inputs help? Yes. Can you solve this problem yourself just knowing a bit of math? Yup.

Drop the data and you'll get some help here.
I"m not sure what you are saying is wrong, but the chrono is helpful because his velocity may be changing through the day which means the math may not be possible. There's so many things that could be wrong here it's hard to know where to start. But you aren't wrong that the data would be a good place to start.
 
We’re on opposite ends. I shoot at Pala. But I'm only hacking around with a carbine and 1-10x scope with binos under 500 yards. :confused:
viper pst gen 2 5-25x can be had for pretty cheap.

I’m either using a 24” white oak varmint upper or an 18” 6ARC
