Many of the Colt AR series are AW by name and model not to mention Armalite, Bushmaster and Knights to name a few.

Importing a Knights SR-15 is a no-go even if a stripped lower.

Yup sb23 did them by name and model and I doubt any got by at the time. I have a colt sporter2 and armalite m15a2. Registered both at the time.

Never had any issues with any law enforcement. Shooting out by calico back in the day had a ranger stop by he never checked them or anything. He just asked if they were registered as aw. Said ok good to go.

But sucks for those who own the named lower as they really can’t do anything with them in ca vs an off list lower. No selling or passing down unless done out of state and even then I hear it’s complicated especially if owner passes.

Also, from this moment forward, you NEVER state or infer you intended to return to CA. It will open up all kinds of discussion as to whether you relinquished your CA domicile thus maintaining “residency”. That would mean you are not a “firearm importer” but a “Resident” returning to CA and would be subject to more stringent controls.

But things are different in the case of an "Evil by Name" Assault Weapon. It's simply the name on the receiver that makes the weapon an "Assault Weapon." That condition is not changed by separating the upper and lower receivers.

Yes, I assume these are all youngsters who lawfully purchased an OLL or are going to purchase an OLL so the Kasler List is not really a concern. I do not think a ton of those Kasler names are even in production anymore. However, you still need to check so thank you for mentioning that.

1st post so excuse me if I'm a bit off on the lingo.

Lived in CA all my life, moved out of state and got into guns. I understand the "move out and never look back" saying I see around (forums/reddit)but something about CA (Family/friends/food) is making me want to move back. I have a few items that I have questions on that I may need help on and hoping I can get some answers because it's a little difficult finding the exacts.

-I have a good general idea of getting the maglock/featureless and welded flash hider.

Walther PDP Pro
-It has a threaded barrel, it's comp'd and from my understanding it will need to be pinned and welded (would end up being a motherless to clean) but I suppose buying a non threaded barrel would make it fine. Yes, I currently have the standard 18rd mags but I'll just have to sell them before hand OR buy some MagBlocks would make it compliant?

Here is where it gets a little hairy: May have to sell before hand and just take the loss on it

-Unsure how this would go... maglock/featureless and welded flash hider and call it good?

-Pretty sure I've got to let this go, from what I see this is a no go in CA.

Any guidance will be appreciated, like I've mentioned...I'm new to the hobby and loving it but I just want to call it all legal when I move back. Yea..I'm sorta loving the PSA stuff hence that's where I get a lot of my stuff.

Don't come here. Real estate prices are insane, rent is out of control and completely stupid, and the liberal government has made the state unlivable in its zeal to import the entire Third World. The weather is nice despite the parks being trashed by illegal aliens and lazy Californians.

Either keep the guns out of state or sell them off and replace with off roster guns that you'll want to own while here.

One thing you can do is use that money to buy California compliant rifles. You have few sane options. Anything with the interlock and/or a fin grip should not be purchased.

That leaves:

Garand
M1A, M1A Scout, M1A SOCOM
Ruger Mini-14
CMMG Descent (and similar ridiculous designs bolted onto an AR-15 receiver... designed to get around the AWB)
M1 Carbine

...and a few others like the Browning BAR and other hunting rifles.

My recommendation is to get one of the M1A rifles and several off roster handguns that you like.

Yes, real estate her in California, especially in the Silicon Valley, is very expensive. I bought my home for 435,000 back in 1996. It’s now worth nearly 3 million.

And don’t forget all the property tax you will pay. My bill is nearly 10,000/year. I can’t imagine what it would cost if I bought now. Probably as much as 46,000/year. That means putting away nearly 3800/month just to cover my taxes. To say nothing of my mortgage. It would be around 12,000 a month.

The guy made his post a year and a half ago, I’m sure he’s long since moved back. The information on this thread is probably helpful for others planning future moves, but I don’t think there’s any point in giving the OP advice now.
