Question modifying a CCW weapon ...

does this pertain to solano county? my username is brokehands because i having thumb fusion surgeries (yes, Plural) and cannot manipulate thumb safeties.

Considering Solano lets you put up to 6 handguns on the permit and doesn’t mention any sort of restrictions on their forms/instructions, I’d be surprised if they restrict modifications.

All that I will say is you should've been carrying a stock gun with ammo that your local police use anyways. God forbid you get into a defensive shooting, your gun is going into evidence and that extra 3, 4, $500 you spent on an optic, light, extended controls, etc. is going to sit in that evidence locker for a long time. Now if money isn't an issue then sure buy an RMR and X300 for your carry gun sure it's your prerogative, what happens when you get sued by the person you shot's family? Take into account your gun has an optic, light, etc. the jury is going to see you as a gun nut. Just my 2 cents

And the rebuttal would be, I modify my gun to better ensure I am alive to stand trial should it come to that.

A good lawyer will argue away all of the BS, especially when they are fairly standard on police weapons now a days (except lasers for rank and file). However, I see people doing dumb "Mods" that would definitely be brought up in a trial:

Punisher Skull on firearm
"Smile, wait for flash" on guide rod muzzle end
"Come and take it"

Etc. These type of things have no purpose but to self identify you're out looking for trouble and can't wait to use your CCW. Atleast, that is what the average person today woyld think.

Years ago, this info was also brought up on a different forum, not sure which forum. So, I asked a sheriff's lieutenant here in Sutter County which ammo they use. He stated that it would vary from order to order since they will join other counties in placing an ammo order to get the best price on good quality ammo. This comes out of the county budget. He did say if I remember correctly that they use Double Tap for the ARs.

All these legal arguments to deter you from being prepared for what could be the worst situation of your life

Maybe you’re in a dark alley, you throw a round because you have no light and it injures a bystander.

The optic makes you quite a bit faster and low light scenarios as well.

I understand your argument, but if you’re carrying a stripped down weapon, that’s not as capable for defense in the situation you may encounter in the scenarios that you carry in because you’re building your defense for a court date you may have for defending yourself then why not just leave it at home so you don’t have to answer for a weapon at all?

If you’re going to choose to carry, I say be as prepared as possible, or don’t carry at all. If the situations you know you’re going to be in our low light or dark than carry accordingly.

Personally, if I worked or operated on night shifts are in the dark and had a CCW for that time in the day, if I didn’t have a light or an optic, I probably would not carry at all because the risk of missing is far greater than the risk of having a light and connecting with a true life threat.

Going to the range or attending courses also labels you as a gun nut. Would you rather be carrying in public with training so nobody gets hurt or for the sake of how it could be twisted just hope you can take that shot if you need to

Personally, thinking about how unexperienced some people are with weapons, and knowing that they carry is unnerving. Thinking that somebody who has no idea how to operate a weapon could pull it out trying to defend himself without adequate training or equipment is a problem

Our rights and freedoms come with responsibility. Our rights are slowly being degraded because people aren’t responsible enough to secure their own rights.

I carry a 19x with Acro P2 and X300. I'm very aware of low/no light situations. I also have carry insurance and a good lawyer, there's just some new people to firearms in these forums and I'm trying to keep them aware of possible cases was all <3

Invest in a gun, that fits your requirements without mods. It could be a bit more expensive, but lawyer's billable hours would cost way more.
