Lower Parts Kit

After looking at everybody’s feedback, I decided to build a rifle the way I want instead of buying a complete rifle as it sounds much cheaper as well. So far, I found a geiselle SDE trigger for $150 and I really like the Magpul UBR stock. Is there a lower part kit that has everything I would need to build my lower that you guys recommend? Once the lower is done, I’ll save up for a good upper especially since Black Friday is coming up. Besides all the lower controls, what else do I need? This is my first build by the way. Is this something I can do myself with basic tools? I am handy but not a pro.

I’ve used psa for one build and a cmc for another.

The cmc kit was about 35 bucks and had everything but trigger assembly. But both kits seemed fine and no issues.

Have you decided on featureless or maglock? Cause you'll have to buy more stuff depending on which way you go.

Watch some YouTube vids on assembly. Some stuff like the detents and roll pins are tricky but not difficult.

I see different buffer weights, do you know what the best one is?

Depends on your upper. Upper controls how much gas is sent to the bcg. More gas means more weight is needed. Most will run with a standard h1 buffer, but you can always get an upper with adjustable gas to run any buffer weight.

UBR is going to be a lot heavier than other stock options, depending on what you are doing with the rifle it may or may not matter.

I haven’t done a build in a while but I believe the UBR does eliminate the need for a castle nut wrench and something to stake the end plate into the castle nut.

I used cmc on my last build. Only needed the trigger assembly but it runs great with no issues. I paid like $30 for it.

It’s going to be a bench gun for the most part so I don’t think weight is an issue. I also really like how it looks. Would not needing the castle nut wrench and staking the end plate make install a lot easier?

The castle nut and staking are very easy parts of the process, it doesn’t make it much easier. You just won’t need the tools. I guess you could have used a strap wrench for the castle nut. Staking is just making a sharp dent in the end plate metal into the castle nut so that it stops the castle nut from moving.

I think it comes with a spacer so you can use carbine buffers but not entirely sure

I believe you are correct on the spacer. Mine did. It is a little heavier, but as mentioned for a bench gun should not be a issue.
It is a very solid stock. I also like their look, particularly with it stripped of the storage doors. The Gen 2 is noticeably lighter than the Gen 1. Had a lot of friends use them to counter balance guns that were front heavy in the days of full quad rails, heavy lights and long suppressors before everything was modular and compact.

UBR might look cool, but that's about the best thing it has going for it. It's heavy, doesn't have great cheek weld, and is expensive. Sold mine almost as soon as I got it. B5 stocks have always been my personal favorite.

I completely forgot and was trying my best to recall the stock I have on my favorite AR build, it was a B5 SOPMOD. Thanks lol

Back on topic though....It didn't cross my mind but for OP I want to bring up the question of, are you sure you want to build a heavier bench AR? This is strictly an opinion but one of my builds is a heavier accurate AR build, it happens to have a UBR stock, and uses a douglas SS 18" SPR profile barrel, and while its nice, if I had one AR it wouldn't be it.

My favorite build, using the mentioned B5 SOPMOD stock, is a light 18" SS barrel with a 1-6x scope, can be used for accurate bench shooting and standing and moving shooting. Its a great all round build. I don't know what kind of ranges you will be using but I use it to hit steel out to 400 yards consistently with standard ammo, and back when I did 3 gun it was my competition rifle that did the run and gun with.

I am also a fan of the B5 SOPMOD as OpusX suggested. Good cheek weld.
I also like the ACS for cheek weld and CTR for minimal / light.

Kudos on deciding to build yourself BTW , I think you'll enjoy the process. My wife has teased me that I enjoy building more than shooting sometimes, I don't ( but only because she doesn't know the cost of ammo these days.)

Back on topic though, I use BCM parts kits for lower builds. Very happy with quality.
