CCW Los Angeles CCW (LASD ONLY)

For my renewal , I uploaded the app on Nov 4th about 90 days before my Jan 28th expiration date. I received a response Nov 5th that it was received. I Uploaded all docs Nov 6th. On Dec 4 I was approved to take class. I took training Dec 18 and uploaded docs Dec 21. On Dec 27 the system said the app was approved. I called the CCW line on Jan 21and asked why there was no call yet to pick up. The officer on the phone said everything is good and the delay was because the file had not been approved by the Sergeant then blamed the Fires. On Jan 28th I sent an email to the CCW unit saying my Permit to Carry has expired and when would I get an appointment to pick up. There was never a response to the email. On Feb 27th I got an email to set up and appointment to pick up. I also had a voice mail on my Cell to look at the email from the LASD that a saw later. The soonest pick appt available was March 24th. 2 months after expiration. LASD needs some Dogeing!

Congratulations!

Did they tell you something about two weeks?

I applied three weeks before you and still haven't received the PTT. I'm pretty sure the application or website said they process applications in the order received, but that's obviously not true.
Maybe you want to contact them and ask about your application.

"CRPA sent a letter to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles City Council demanding that they immediately devote whatever resources are necessary to reduce wait times for CCW permit applications. In the letter, we warn that a lawsuit is imminent if the City does not comply.

Before Bruen, LAPD almost never issued CCW permits, as there were only four active permits despite the City having a large population of 3.8 million people. Bruen forced that to change, but the City has found other ways to obstruct the right to carry. Wait times for a CCW permit with LAPD have ballooned, with new applicants being told in emails that they can expect to wait 18-22 months. This places an unacceptable burden on the Second Amendment right, and the Supreme Court warned in Bruen that “because any permitting scheme can be put toward abusive ends, we do not rule out constitutional challenges to shall-issue regimes where, for example, lengthy wait times in processing license applications or exorbitant fees deny ordinary citizens their right to public carry.” While CRPA stands by the fact that any licensing scheme is an infringement of the rights of the people to bear arms, we must insist that jurisdictions at least act within the shorter timeframe for issuance of CCWs noted in state law.

LAPD is currently violating California law, which mandates that CCW permit applications be processed in no more than 120 days. Unfortunately, Attorney General Bonta and the Department of Justice have shown no interest in enforcing that law, so it is left to CRPA to step up and work to vindicate its members rights.

Our letter warns LAPD and the City that within the next 30 days, they must propose a concrete plan to bring down wait times. If they refuse to cooperate, the next step will be a CRPA lawsuit to protect our members’ right to carry. We’ve already won a preliminary injunction on the issue of long wait times for the individual Plaintiffs in our lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and that litigation remains ongoing. If necessary, we hope to expand on that win in this potential lawsuit against LAPD."

U.S. Department of Justice Announces Second Amendment Pattern-or-Practice Investigation into California’s Los Angeles County

More in the article above.

As part of a broader review of restrictive firearms-related laws in California and other States, the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division today announced an investigation into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to determine whether it is engaging in a pattern or practice of depriving ordinary, law-abiding Californians of their Second Amendment rights. A recent federal court decision found that “the law and facts [we]re clearly in … favor” of two private plaintiffs who challenged the lengthy eighteen-month delays that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had imposed when processing their concealed handgun license applications. And the Civil Rights Division has reason to believe that those two plaintiffs are not the only residents of Los Angeles County experiencing similarly long delays that are unduly burdening, or effectively denying, the Second Amendment rights of the people of Los Angeles.

It's now been three months and my Livescan still isn't complete. The firearms portion is still "in progress." I'm pretty sure the PTT comes right after the Livescan is complete.

Contact the Sheriff assigned to your application via e-mail, I’m always in contact with the one assigned to mine after the interview.

I am coming up on 33 months since dropping my application with no contact in any way.
I have been back to the sheriffs station and they have told me , “just wait for the call, there is a backlog “ from the person at the front desk.
I feel this is beyond ridiculous already.
Should I put in a new application?
It was prior to the online application

Do not put in a new application. My understanding is that would start the clock all over again.

I just got a call from a deputy from the CCW unit. I'm being moved to mid April appointment. Thank you President Trump and AG Bondi for the threats. It sure did the job

U.S. Department of Justice Announces Second Amendment Pattern-or-Practice Investigation into California’s Los Angeles County

Protecting the Second Amendment rights of ordinary, law-abiding Americans is a high priority for this Administration.

The Supreme Court has repeatedly recognized that the Second Amendment is not “a second-class right.” And over the past two decades, the Supreme Court has recognized that the Second Amendment is a fundamental, individual constitutional right and has taken multiple opportunities to strengthen Second Amendment protections for ordinary, law-abiding citizens.

Some States and localities, however, have resisted this recent pro-Second Amendment caselaw. And California has been a particularly egregious offender. In response to recent Supreme Court caselaw, California enacted new legislation to further restrict the ability of ordinary, law-abiding Californians to keep and bear arms. And many California localities appear to be imposing additional burdens beyond those required by California state law, including by subjecting ordinary, law-abiding Californians to expensive fees and lengthy wait times associated with applications for concealed handgun licenses.

“This Department of Justice will not stand idly by while States and localities infringe on the Second Amendment rights of ordinary, law-abiding Americans,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “The Second Amendment is not a second-class right, and under my watch, the Department will actively enforce the Second Amendment just like it actively enforces other fundamental constitutional rights.”

Attorney General Bondi hopes that states and localities will voluntarily embrace their duty to protect the Second Amendment rights of their citizens. But if necessary, today’s announcement will be the first of many similar investigations, lawsuits, or other actions involving other localities in California, the State of California itself, and any other states or localities that insist on unduly burdening, or effectively denying, the Second Amendment rights of their ordinary, law-abiding citizens.

Hey guys, Kostas Moros here, I am an attorney with Michel & Associates which does a bunch of work in the Second Amendment field, including CRPA v. LASD.

We have been in touch with USDOJ regarding their investigation, and they'd love more people to reach out to them to share their experience about the long wait times. They want to speak with at least a sampling of people as they investigate. From their website:

On March 27, 2025, the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice opened a pattern or practice investigation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) pursuant to our authority under 34 U.S.C. § 12601. The investigation will examine whether LASD engages in practices that unduly burden, or effectively deny, the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, including by requiring them to endure lengthy wait times when applying for concealed handgun licenses.

Anyone with information related to this investigation may contact the Special Litigation Section by emailing Community.2ndAmendmentCA@usdoj.gov, by phone at (888) 394-8137, or by mail at US Department of Justice, Special Litigation Section – 4CON, Attn: Los Angeles County 2nd Amendment Investigation, 950 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20530.

Please reach out to them if you have time. Thanks.
