CCW Los Angeles CCW (LASD ONLY)

Had my phone interview July 2nd. My interviewer said it would be about 3 months to hear about proceeding to training and I still haven’t heard anything.
I had mine on July 9th and am in the same boat. I've done my 16 hour training and just waiting to submit my records when I get the email to PTT.

The deputy in charge of my app told me not to schedule or complete any firearms training until I receive an approval to do so.

So should I wait for the PTT email before scheduling and completing my firearms training? Lol

The training certificate is good for a year and I want to send my docs as soon as I get the PTT email hopefully speeding up the process after having waited this long.

I think they are required to say this. @Sanfaz is correct tho, training is good for a year.

I cant believe its actually taking longer now than it was at the beginning of the year!

Well, I guess I can just thought it would turn around and times would start to drop rather than climb.

So do you think it’s a good idea even tho the deputy told me not to and just train before waiting for the PTT email? I don’t want the training to go to waste

Ultimately its up to you to make that decision.

If it were me, and I did do this, I would train ahead of time and submit immediately upon receiving the PTT email.

I have no record for me to worry about my application getting denied. My Live Scan actually completed so quickly, CA and FBI completed same day, and Firearms completed after 3 days.

It’s only a matter of time for me to wait for the PTT.

But I am actually considering taking the class sooner than the PTT. Just need a trainer around my area.

What area are you in?

I did training with Medic Up. Its a little pricey but that whole crew is awesome.

Medic Up seems close to me. Might use them.

For AZ non residence, we can just use our CA CCW to qualify right? We don’t need to get the AZ training?

Interested to see a more granular timeline. I applied July 2022 as well and received my card in July 2024.

Applied 7/22 after my application being lost with the money order and being pushed back. Application was entered 1/23 into the system and got interview 7/24 did live scan that day of interview. 8/24 got the go ahead to start fired training got my call to pick up on dec. 11

Hi all wanted to give an update and timeline
8/2022 mailed application, Live scanned 1/24, interview 5/29/24, training 9/24, scheduled to pick up on 12/12/24.
Side note the number for pick up came from a 562 area code number not the expected 213 area code.

Since CalGuns is still not that reliable, I thought I'd share a timeline for my initial CCW application w/ LASD. Here's my experience so far:

09/10/22: Application submitted @ LASD Temple Station.
08/06/24: Phone interview.
10/11/24: Proceed to training email.
10/12/24 - 10/13/24: 16 hour training @ Route 66.
10/14/24: Emailed training documents.
12/12/24: Confirmed application approved (called CCW unit) / waiting for pick up call .

I'm hoping to pick up the permit before the end of the year. According to the deputy I spoke with, they're making daily calls to schedule pick-ups.

While on the topic, I understand you're required to notify the CCW unit within 10 days of moving. I'm planning to move soon but am unsure if I'll pick up my CCW permit before then. My questions/concerns are:

1. Should I notify the CCW unit now, before the move (so that they can input the updated address on the permit), or wait until the move is finalized?

2. If the permit hasn't been issued yet (but is approved), would moving within LA County still void the process and force me to restart with the local PD?

I know that if you already have your permit and move, LASD allows renewals as long as you remain in LA County. However, since I haven't picked it up yet, I'm unsure how this situation would be handled...

Does Route66 provide CCW training daily? How was it?

I don't think they offer the class every weekend, but it seems to happen fairly often. My class had about 20 participants from different counties. I don't have much to compare it to aside from the Utah CCW course, but overall, it was very informative. The instructors were knowledgeable, and the course focused more on real-life situations rather than just going through slides. If you're going to spend 16 hours in a class, it's worth getting usable, practical information out of it.

Since then, I've taken additional pistol and CCW training courses with them, and for me, it's money well spent. That said, your mileage may vary depending on your own experience and skill set.

Caleb was the main instructor for my class (and for most of the courses I took), and he seemed highly experienced - not just in the classroom, but also during live-fire exercises. It's clear that he frequently attends other training sessions himself and integrates what he learns into his own teaching, which I really appreciated.

Finally got my PTT after 1 month after submitting my requirements after the interview, do I need to get AZ and UT endorsements to apply for AZ and UT?
