Looks like this hasn’t been updated in a while. Just did my renewal. My permit expires in October. Submitted the renewal application mid-July. Received proceed to training email two weeks later. Submitted the training certs that same day (had taken the renewal course immediately after submitting my renewal app). Renewal permit was approved a week after submitting training certs. Paid the final payment online and scheduled my pick up date. Picking up my permit on Thursday.

My last renewal two years ago took over 90 days. This time around it took only 3 weeks, from submission to approval. It will be exactly 4 weeks when I pick up my permit. The timeline definitely has improved a lot, but hopefully the new live scan requirement for renewals starting September 1st won’t delay the process too much.

Nice! Congrats! Also just to confirm, will the renewed permit expire 2 years from the original expiration date or 2 years from the date you pick it up?

Mine took 12 months from the day I applied to the day my license was received.

FWIW, I did modification to add a gun and it was exactly a 2 week timeline from submission to pickup of the new permit.

Similar timeline with LAPD on a modification. At least that part of the process is reasonable.

It looks like it will be 2 years from the date I pick up and not the original date, so I’ll lose two months. I’m ok with that though.

That really sucks if that’s the case, but I suppose it’s better than the alternative of having it lapse while they drag their feet and not be able to carry at all. Curious what the expiration date printed on the card will say.

Picked up my permit. Looks like it will be the new date instead of the old date. I’m good with that though. My last two renewals I ended up lapsing, so I’d rather receive my permit early than have it lapse again.

then i suddenly got an email today saying my appointment was cancelled

effective 9/1/26 all ccw renewals now require another livescan + additional $41 in DOJ fees
the annoying part is my ccw expires 10/17 so who knows if the livescan will be completed by that time
the last time it took almost 2 months
i uploaded docs and paid fees

i also emailed the lasd ccw unit to see if they can extend my expiration date (long shot)

Man that sucks. I’m sorry to hear that. Just another stupid hurdle for us to go through. I don’t get why they couldn’t have just grandfathered you in since you technically were approved before September 1st. Hopefully your live scan returns fast. I’m glad I was able to pick up my renewal permit before September 1st.

UPDATES ON NEW TIMELINE FOR CCW RENEWAL AFTER SEPTEMBER 1st

I just submitted my 2nd renewal a few days back due to my permit expiring on 12/02, and since the new fingerprinting requirement came to effect already might as well let me document my process here for reference to others and would just update as things happen.
