CCW Los Angeles CCW (LASD ONLY)

Training docs submitted 11/30. Stuck with Pending supervisor final review/approval.

Coming up on expiration date soon so I hope to hear back.

Training docs submitted 12/29, still no movement from Pending supervisor approval. 2/22 my permit expires. Ugh

My permit expires on 2/22, and I’d been stuck for over a month on pending approval for over a month. Sent them a detailed email and within 10 minutes got a curt response that basically said they’d get to me when they got to me.

On the way home my phone rang and it was a 323 number… took a chance and it was a robot call from the sheriff’s office telling me I was approved for the renewal and to look for an email to pay. Sure enough it was in my inbox, telling me to pay and when I went back to Permitium after I paid it gave me dates to pickup. Soonest I could do it was the Feb 7th at 7am ish.

So it’s all good!

Wanted to contribute to the community here and post an update for my fellow LASD applicants on my CCW experience.

Process was fairly smooth despite some hiccups on my part, so I’m hoping this is a sign that things are improving for everyone.

6/5/25 - New application submitted with initial fee. Interview scheduled for 06/9/26

8/31/25 - interview pushed up and rescheduled for 10/24/25

9/1/25 - ran my own general inquiry live scan. This was recommended by one of my buddies that works for LASD as he told me I’d be surprised how many people don’t know what’s actually on their rap sheet. Unless you’re 100% sure you have a clean record, I recommend spending the money to do this. Glad I did, as I found some additional things tacked on my record that I didn’t know about from a DUI 20 years ago.

9/15/25 - sent email to LASD noting omitted information in my original application. I’ve heard others say you can just disclose this during the interview but I wanted to ensure I had a paper trail.

10/21/25 - received request from LASD to run live scan. Thought this was odd considering I didn’t have my interview yet. Makes the interview seem unnecessary.

10/23/25 - ran CCW livescan as requested.

10/24/25 - attended interview. Disclosed omitted application info and explained that an email was sent. Officer confirmed receipt of my email. Interview lasted 10min at the most.

10/28/25 - CCW unit called all three of my references. Make sure your references know they may get a call from a 323 area code.

11/28/25 - received authorization to complete training and qualifications.

12/12/25-12/13/25 - took the 16hr course and shooting qualification with Concealed Coalition. Class was decent and they offer AZ and UT certificates for an extra cost if you want reciprocity in most states. Good if you travel into NV a lot and want to carry there.

12/13/25 - submitted all certification documents.

Waited…waited…waited.

1/30/25 - received text and email from LASD that my CCW was approved, to pay final fee and to schedule license pickup. Pick up scheduled for mid-Feb.

Around 8 months from application to license pickup. 😮‍💨

Too bad all these great carry pistols hit the roster after I submitted my app. Guess I need to make another post if I decide to amend.

hello fellas I applied on 3/11/2025
Got an initial interview date of 3/12/2026
Got an email in early August and they moved my interview to 9/25/2025

It seems that the litigation/ investigation has put pressure on them. I’ll keep this updated!

Update: did my 16hrs training on 12/22/2025, running certs the same day!

2/2/26: PICKED UP MY PERMIT! I had a 2:20pm appointment but the Deputy texted me to come in any time of the day! Needless to say I called out sick!

First time using permitium and in a holding pattern. I haven’t been asked for training yet but I did it.

I had to book a class since I had scheduling conflicts most weekends and did it when I could, well after submitting my renewal. Still waiting.

Can I submit my training proof in the portal prior to being asked?

It says not to do any training until they tell you to, so I recommend just hanging on to your documents and upload them once they’ve cleared you for training.

You won’t be cleared for training until after you’ve done your interview and submitted your live scan.

Maybe I forgot to mention this is a renewal for me. They give a short window to renew. I submitted the first day I could. Then took the training afterwards, when it fit my schedule.

If that’s the case then you might want to send an email. There was another user on here that had a similar issue where they were getting really close to their expiration date and got stuck with a “pending approval” status. He sent an email and permitium magically updated.

I think his post is a couple of pages back.

Currently doing my renewal, applied middle of January on permitium, took a few days before they gave me the green light to get and upload the training docs. Did my training on February 22nd, submitted same night. Now just waiting for the appointment.

Anyone know if they’re a bit fickle with file names? I kind of just, uploaded them with whatever jumble name came with the file. I’m wondering if I should reupload them with actual proper names.

You can go ahead and take the training, so long as you are confident nothing changed in your background and you will pass.

Once you take the class don’t upload anything until you receive the proceed to training email

Nevermind, I just got the green light to schedule my pickup. Lol

When should/can someone start the renewal application?
LASD says within 90 days of your expiration date. In my mind, I started right away when the 90 day window for me opened, since I didn’t know if the processing would be fast/slow and didn’t want my license to lapse.

That was fast, thanks for sharing! I’d rather lose some months and renew early than to have it expire

Looks like this hasn’t been updated in a while. Just did my renewal. My permit expires in October. Submitted the renewal application mid-July. Received proceed to training email two weeks later. Submitted the training certs that same day (had taken the renewal course immediately after submitting my renewal app). Renewal permit was approved a week after submitting training certs. Paid the final payment online and scheduled my pick up date. Picking up my permit on Thursday.

My last renewal two years ago took over 90 days. This time around it took only 3 weeks, from submission to approval. It will be exactly 4 weeks when I pick up my permit. The timeline definitely has improved a lot, but hopefully the new live scan requirement for renewals starting September 1st won’t delay the process too much.
