I'm just happy the process is winding down now. I can appreciate how many applications they have to sort though and do and I get the arguments against the whole process but I also can appreciate the work the LASD does to get through them all.

I have no negative feelings about going thought this. I'm ok with it all.

Applied in February 2024.
Appointment setup for July 2025.
Appointment moved up to April 29 2025.
Proceed to train July 31, 2025.
Training completed and submitted 8/10/2025 and resubmitted 9/12/2025 (See previous post).
Received call 10/20/2025 and final payment.
Pick up 11/06/2025.

Just got my text and email (no phone call). Paid the fee. Scheduled for the first available pick up date 11/13.

I ran into my coworker I mentioned earlier where we were both on similar timelines and he said he got his approval Friday and is picking up 11/06.

Any data on how many have been issued?
No idea, but it looked like there were at least 20 pickup slots available per day (10 or 15 min intervals)... I should have counted. I can't go back and look without losing my current slot (pretty sure anyway as I rescheduled my pickup day from 13th to the 14th... to make it a three day weekend... and did not see a "cancel" button once I started the process.

Maybe the next person that schedules a pickup can count the slots.

I just checked and there are 40 slots starting at 7am going to 2:30 pm in 10min intervals.

So a couple hundred a week if that is happening day in and day out, five days a week.

When I went for my interview back in May, I was a couple hours early. Didn’t seem like that many people came through in the time I was sitting there. Of course they may have stepped things up since then.

It also seems like they are not just going by when you completed your training. I interviewed a little before, and finished my training a week before my coworker, but he got the pick up call five days before me. I asked when he applied he said end of feb 24’. I was mid march 24’.

I’ll be a couple days shy of 20 months from start to finish when I pick up my permit 🫤

I think you're right. They seem to be taking the application date as the "official date" for what they mean by first come / first served regardless of interviews, finger prints, training etc.

At least they are moving in the right direction, albeit slowly. When I went through the process (applied July 1, 2022, issued July 23, 2024) it was at an average 24 month process, and some guys took longer to get issued. I didnt get a call for interview until Jan 2024.

just go to say the new system they got going pretty good for renewals. less than 4 months from start to finish for renewals. could of gotten faster but didnt have time to take training. the internet upload works great.

Just picked mine up this morning. The sherif that gave me my card said a couple new laws were going to be going into place. One had to do with eligibility (I don’t know the details on that), the other was that they will be good for four years instead of two down the road (don’t remember the effective date for that either, but definitely a step in the right direction).

Edit. Looks like it might be this bill for the time valid extension….

https://legiscan.com/CA/text/AB1092/id/3174526

“This bill would, for a license issued after January 1, 2026, and before January 1, 2027, extend the duration of those licenses to a period of time not to exceed 3 years from the date of the license. I only had 1 gun when I initially applied. Added the 2 during while training for a total of 3. I thought we could do that but apparently not.

I am just going to say, that this is inconsistent across people.

I emailed them over the summer at the beginning of June and got this as a reply,

If approved to proceed with firearm training, the firearms listed on the training documents are what will be listed on the license (up to 3).

also think you cant add anything until your renewal.
Correct UNLESS you have only one weapon on your license and it was either lost, stolen, damaged or unusable

"In the event of a damaged/lost/stolen firearm, a different firearm may be added if that firearm is the only firearm listed on their license. Licensee will need to contact LASD for approval at ccw_unit@lasd.org"
