Question Looking for SF Bay Area Luger expert

Hi all,

I am considering purchasing a 1937 s/24 from someone. We both generally agree it's probably been refinished but is on great shape. Neither of us are experts and are trying to come up with a fair value for it. Is there anyone in the bay area we could bring it to for an evaluation of what's been done to it, if it really is all matching, etc? Pictures only go so far.

The shop was still there down on the first floor and work was being done (though not by Michael), but as of a few weeks ago, it's permanently closed and the FFL is no more.

That shop keeps coming up in my research. Sounds like it would have been a place to go. Too bad it is no more.

It was a great shop with a Luger and Borchardt legend. A lot of talent and knowledge will be lost with him.

I'm not a Luger expert by any means but I've bought a couple of WWI-era Lugers in very worn condition without matching parts or original grips.

If it's been refinished and has all matching parts, and nothing is broken or missing, I'd pay anywhere from $1000-$1200. Not a dime more.

My Luger has been polished a bit and refinished. And the grips have been replaced with multi color Lucite. I have the original grips as well. And I will have the gun for as long as I live as it used to belong to my father who made the grips.

After I die, it will go to my youngest sister. She’s a gun nut and reloads.

Stop but Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito. You will need to get on the website first to schedule an appointment with Bob.

He was able to determine my Colt 1903 type III was a refinish by finding a small pit, looking at it under magnification and seeing that the bottom of the pit was blued, which confirmed a refinish. The refinish looked original, but Bob was able to confirm it was not
