Need to have some work done on my colt 1991. It was well used when I got it and I’ve round 25-30k rounds through it and exercise done anything to it. For sure the sights need to be replaced. The front blade is staked in place and the rear windage just let go. It bounces around every time you shoot it. Also would rather it be more of a USPSA sight and less of a target sight.

Naw, it’s a workhorse and looks like one too. I was just thinking that after 25K rounds, it should be gone through.


They are millett sights and the front has 2 staked studs. I found a NOS Millett rear on eBay, that should get me back up and running.

Well, I got it fixed. I did it in my own garage, with the help of another Caguns member. He asked for info on the sights and determined that they were millett brand. I found this on eBay $51 shipped, and figured I was home free!

Well, no. Different dovetails. The new one was loosey goosey. My unnamed friend advised me to not use it even though I could tighten the set screws. We discussed me shipping him the slide and new sight so he could machine me shims but then he came up with the brilliant idea of taking the leaf from the new sight and mounting it to the old base.

I did have to take the whole slide apart to get the firing pin block plunger spring out so I could put the dovetail back in and it’s soaking in CLP till I get a chance to put it back together (this gun gets ridden hard and put away wet and deserves a good cleaning) so I haven’t shot it yet but I do believe I am back in business!
