Legality of electronic calls and coyote hunting

So I stopped by a local gun shop for some lead free ammo and had a quick conversation about hunting coyotes. I was told by an employee that electronic calls are illegal to use for hunting coyotes. However, as far as I know it's legal to do so for coyotes. It's stated explicitly on CA Fish and Game website that electronic calls are illegal for non-game birds and mammals EXCEPT coyotes. Am I wrong on this? :eek: I didn't want to debate with the person in the store, but a quick search through CA Fish and Game website came up with this result. It has been a while but I'm glad I read through the regulations again.

You have confirmed what you already know. No one spreads FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) better than a gun shop. We take classes on it. I had to tell a customer the other day I could not order him a Glock 7 because they go right through metal detectors and it costs more than he makes in a month. He settled on buying a Glock 17 Gen3 for a deal at $999 plus taxes and DROS as it was only a quarter of what he made in a month. He liked the bargain.

I don’t think age has anything to do with it . It’s a2:100 chance. Any gun store employee isn’t weapons grade daft . It comes with the territory . Think of them like baristas and treat them as such
 
Anecdote, not advice to perform illegal acts: Many years ago, we had a group of mountain lions take up residence near our driveway (we live on dozens of acres in a rural, hilly area). I decided to call the local F&G warden to chat, just to let them know. We talked for a little while, and I complained that there were coyotes everywhere, they had killed multiple neighborhood cats (including ours), and were a noisy nuisance. He asked whether I have rifles (yup, quite a few), and he asked me to shoot as many as I could. But I don't have a hunter's license? Doesn't matter, the wardens hate coyotes so badly, just get rid of them. If locals don't kill them and reduce their number, then fish & game has to regularly hire professional hunters to do so.

It's a neverending battle. Once the yotes figure out there's numbers are dwindling, they start popping baby's like crazy. You do get a break because they'll migrate away for a while.
 
Damn things can live just about ANYWHERE. Kids and I went to a 66ers (Angels Single A farm team) game in downtown San Bernardino. A young healthy one ran across the parking lot as we left at 11pm night before last.
 
Legal to use an e-caller.

Hunt them while you can. With the 10 or eleven wolf packs in Nor Cal, it’s only a matter of time before libs ban coyote hunting out of fear you’ll shoot a wolf.
 
For all legal questions, I would check the applicable code section. If someone states a fact, you should ask, “can you show me the law section so I can understand.” This is how we hold our community to a higher standard and eliminate the hearsay and tales that run rampant.
