I believe you could legally rent a large safe deposit box or two in a bank and legally store them there. I would ask the bank if it is OK to store some rare and extremely valuable firearms in their safe deposit box. The process of doing this could be "delicate" to say the least.I'm planning on making a move and want my legal gun owning friend to hold onto my firearms here till I get settled in, is that okay?
Requirements for Safe Storage in California
To legally store a firearm in California, you must ensure it is:
Unloaded: The firearm cannot be loaded when stored.
Secured: The firearm must be stored in a locked container or disabled with a state-approved locking device.
Locked Container/Device: The container must be a California-approved firearms safety device, such as a lock box, or a gun safe that meets the Department of Justice's safety standards.
Ammunition Separate: The ammunition must be stored in a separate location from the firearm.
Bank Policy:
Most banks have policies that prohibit storing firearms in safe deposit boxes, so it is essential to check with your specific bank first.
