I submitted my physical application for CCW with LASD in June 2022. Did livescan the same day.
Did the LASD interview in August 2023 (1 hour interview)
Got a denial letter in December 2023.
Denial reason was "failure to disclose"
I called the deputy asking what I failed to disclose, he told me I didn't tell them about a racing ticket (speed contest ) that I got in 2010. (This ticket was dismissed) I told him I had no idea I was supposed to list that and it was not intentional (the application asked for 7 years of tickets, not 10+) , he said oh well, apply with LAPD. I asked to appeal he said no, you need to apply with LAPD, LASD isn't doing any more applications unless you live in an unincorporated area.
I called LAPD in December 2023 and got on the wait list
I got an email from LAPD in June 2025, telling me to fill out the application online, and do my livescan.
I submitted the online application, did livescan same day (made sure to list the racing ticket just in case)
I got an email for an interview scheduled on July 8 2025. Interview lasted 2 minutes. Told me to do the training, made me sign something, and thats it.
On July 10, 3 out of 5 of my references were called
I finished the 16 hour training on July 20 2025, submitted the online cert same day
July 22, permitium status was "pending supervisor approval"
July 25, permitium status was "pending captain review"
July 28, permitium status was "pending commander/chief review"
July 29, permitium status was "permit approved"
Permit pickup scheduled for August 6
Total time from start to finish with LASD = 557 days
Total time from start to finish with LAPD = 597 days
Total time combined = 1,154 days
I plan on suing LASD for my wrongful denial.
I am however very pleased with how fast LAPD moved, after my application actually got submitted.
