My very first USPSA stage compared to one of my most recent stages after about 90 days of competition shooting 8 matches in total. Have a match for the next 5 weekends scheduled. Where I'm at I could go to a match every single weekend and potentially two matches on two weekends if I really wanted to, haha. Dry fire is not as frequent as I would like, just been busy, so maybe 2-3x per week. Sometimes more, in short sessions.

My apologies the camera was originally horizontal for these videos and not vertical, so you don't get a great view of all things.

By no means am I anywhere near GM any time soon, but you can definitely see the difference.

First stage was good for 43.63% overall for that match
Last stage was good for 84.4% overall for that match & top 15 finish (day 1)

Currently working on:

-Accepting less dot confirmation as my first shots on target are 100% confirmation, then the double is simply a single aiming reference double, which typically winds up very close to the other one. I find there are often folks that beat me at a match with much lesser accuracy simply because they go much faster. While this is not my goal, I definitely need to pick it up a bit. This will also help target transitions.

-The above segues into being able to simply move faster with my feet. The faster I can get on target, make shots, the faster I can move to the next.

-Once I do that, I can work on better entries/exits.

It's been a fun journey so far and I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here.

Nice progression. Looks like the confidence is building and your movement is more fluid.
Appreciate the kind words, still mountains of work to do, but it's always nice to see some improvements along the way.

Nothing like some of these twenty somethings out there that can move like the wind though, lol. There's a couple of young guys who we all started about the same time that are absolutely killing it with speed. Their accuracy is not nearly as good as mine, but they kick my butt because they are so fast!

I could possible move to Major power factor, which would help for those few non-alpha hits, still debating in my head.

This Match I had 87 Alphas, 12 Charlies, 3 Delta 0 Mike 0 No Shoot. The #1 Shooter had 81 Alpha 19 Charlie 2 Delta 1 No Shoot, but did the match in about 30 seconds less than my time, which is insane because there were 6 stages, but one of them wasn't timed!

Nice work!

Flash confirmation is a good thing to work on. As soon as slightest bit of red/green hits your POA break the shot.

There’s a Pistol Mounted Optic class in Concord this Saturday - https://www.paladin-tactical-us.com/event-details/pistol-mounted-optic-4

I think a next good thing to work on is stage planning. Speed isn’t always just how fast you move but how you organize and blend the different parts of the stage together to try and maintain as continuous of a flow as possible.

Tom Castro has a philosophy where he says he has no expectation of being super fast at his age so he works and plans on shooting sooner.

Appreciate the kind words! This Sat I will be at another match, lol, same goes for the next 5 Saturdays bare minimum.

There are also practice matches as well as specific skill focused competition geared training days (every Monday) at one of the local ranges.

Funny you mention Stage Planning. I know I definitely need to work on it, but funny enough the times I deviate from plans that most others do for stages is when I seem to perform the best, so I would agree. The 2nd stage in the video for example was different than anyone else I saw for the stage plan and it was my best performing stage from this match. Same for my best performing stages from my previous two matches. If I can't come up with a good plan, I will typically see what everyone else does and copy them for the most part. Being able to pick the brains of the GM & M shooters I've been squadding with has definitely been a blessing.

Mid 40's here, so it's not like I'm old old, but I'm definitely not young, so I agree, there's only going to be so much speed I will be able to implement, especially with lingering injuries from car and motorcycle accidents, so I have to rely on Stage Plan & Transitions more to make it happen. And maintaining a high level of accuracy of course.
Thats awesome job! Least your out there doing it,who cares what the scores are!!Wheres the every weekend matches?
Much appreciated! I definitely am humble enough to realize I won't be winning soon, but there will be a time when I will. There are some folks out there who just show up to have fun, which I am for now, but I'm also showing up to get better while having fun.

Definitely agree that getting out there to do it is the most important part, at any level. So much more fun than the static range!

I'm in NorCal, Sacramento specifically. Check Practiscore

1st Weekend: El Dorado EDPS & Lincoln LRC
2nd Weekend: Yolo Targetmasters & Sac Valley SOAP
3rd Weekend: Sac Valley CAPSL
4th Weekend: Sac Valley NCPS

El Dorado also is starting to host mid week matches and Lincoln does sometimes as well. There are also a variety or practices, IDPA, Steel Challenge, Long Range and all sorts of other things to do in between to sharpen specific or other skills.
