Is my new EPS Carry faulty?

So I just got an EPS Carry RD-MRS in the mail today and there is a pretty pronounced horizontal red line just above the reticle when in circle or multi-reticle modes. The dot by itself looks fine. I couldn’t find anything online other than complaints about the reticle/circle warping as it moves to the edges of the sight window - this is not that issue but rather seems like the emitter is bleeding light out of the edge where it shouldn’t be.

Should I just return it for an exchange or is this normal/expected on a RDS? This is my first red dot and was hoping to throw it on the P365 in picking up on Friday. The dot is fine and I think I’ll mostly use that, but I wanted the option to use the multi reticle and it cost more $ for this version so I feel a bit ripped off keeping it. It was also in manual mode when I opened it, and the manual says it comes in Auto mode from the factory so I think maybe this one was a prior return or a display piece that got bumped around maybe?

Hard to get a photo of it - I had to turn the brightness up to high to get it to show on the camera but it is there clear as day even at lower brightness settings.

Thoughts?

If that shows up even at low settings, then yeah something is wrong! I would exchange it.

The highest 2 or 3 settings on amy dot are basically for outside sunny days . Inside you and around medium bright .
You just have the brightness too high for the room

Yeah I realize this; the line still shows up at even the lowest settings or on Auto mode when the solar sensor dictates the brightness, it just becomes lower intensity (the line gets as dim as the reticle but it’s clearly still there). I just cranked it up to high for the photo to see it more clearly.

I may try to take it in to a LGS that carries these to compare to another one on display as this really doesn’t seem right… might be worth getting the dot-only version if the LGS display model looks the same or looking at a green one too as I’ve never even seen/used a green dot before (maybe they have less artifacts). I was thinking the red is better as this will be a nightstand gun too and red is supposed to be better at night but if green is clearer it might be the better option.

I have an EPS Carry. Something is definitely wrong with yours. Warranty or store exchange.
Did yours come in auto mode when you opened the box as the user manual states it should? Mine was in manual mode and I’m thinking that indicates it was already opened and returned by someone for the same issue…

Gun shops that carry both red and green dots will usually let you do a side-by-side comparison. Some people see green better, especially with an astigmatism. Some do just fine with red and they're a little cheaper.

I'm a green dot guy and a Dapper Dan man!

Yeah so I took it into a LGS and compared to their model, it was definitely faulty. Returned to Amazon and bought a green mrs from the LGS, it’s perfectly crisp and I think the green is a little less straining to look at

Side note is it normal for employees behind the counter at a LGS to ask for tips?? I know tipping culture has gone insane and I haven’t bought anything since covid but that took me by surprise, dude was like “it’s going to ask you if you want to tip, you don’t have to but we don’t get any commissions” I was kinda shocked

Oh hellll no, I barely tolerate tipping at restaurants. Especially because if you bought that red dot locally you almost certainly paid more than buying it online.

Not normal, and I would be put off by someone asking directly for a tip at a retail gun store.

Glad you got the dot situation sorted!

One of the problems with purchasing from Amazon. Once in a while you get someone else’s return under the assumption you’re getting something new. Glad you were able to return it and hopefully it doesn’t become another buyers problem.

Tipping has been out of control for awhile. Everyone wants a tip for just doing the job they signed up for. P.S. if you feel inclined to tip me for replying to your thread, DM me and I’ll send you my Venmo.

Many ofnthe POS systems floating around now are defaulted to ask for tips. Clover, Square, and Paypal are ones I've used that did this. For some reason I had difficulty getting it to go away and stay gone.
His statement was a bit problematic in my opinion.

I See this every so often with Holosun. Likely a tiny piece of the plastic the lens was packed with or even an eyelash trapped where the emitter is.
