You can buy a complete lower and a complete upper. Easy button. I'd be most interested in the best barrel and trigger I can find for the money.

I’m with Snip. Barrel and trigger are the two most important components. Everything else is a toss up since even the less expensive stuff looks decent and works good nowadays. Probably can’t even tell the difference in performance other than bragging rights of expensive brand names. You’ll be able to see the difference in the barrel and trigger though.

Look for highpower shooters dumping a "shot out" barrel.
Their definition of "loose" would be everyone else's idea of premium.

There have been some gucci LR uppers getting dumped on gunbroker the last few months.
In particular are barrels chambered by outfits that are oob, massive lead times, or arent open to the public anymore.

Set a performing standard for yourself, then go buy a $300 larping upper for yourself if you need t9 satisfy that itch.

I’m looking for some help on an AR build. I’m a newb to anything AR related. I’ve heard about aero lowers and juggernaut kingpins but really need help with a build. Since I don’t know much I’ll need help exploring the options.

Overall budget 1,000-1,500.

Also, anything I should avoid that’s illegal. Best places to purchase

Are you building it yourself or paying someone else to build it for you (after buying the parts)?

Do you plan on buying a complete lower or stripped lower and installing the parts yourself? For the upper do you plan on buying a complete upper or assembling the parts to build the upper?

If doing it yourself, do you have the tools such as foot pounds torque wrench (can even use the one you use for working on your car) for castle nut or barrel nut, and a vise? Inch Pounds torque wrench for gas block screws or handguard screws, if not buying complete upper. If you don’t have the tools; are you willing to buy the tools?

For me, I bought my first AR built from the factory; featureless with fin grip. Swapped out small parts as I shot it, learning what I like and don’t like; such as changing out the featureless fin grip for a resurgent arms featureless grip. Then after that I just started building instead…..the downside with changing out parts from a factory built AR, is now you have basic parts laying around in a parts bin. But it is a good way to learn about the platform..

The upside of building from the start is you can choose which parts constructed of which materials you already want on there, so you are not spending more money later on with parts laying around……

Building can seem intimidating at first but there are plenty of videos online on how to do it; so, don’t be intimidated. The internet has torque specs available too.

My humble opinion is to buy your first AR complete off the shelf. Get familiar with how it operates. Take it apart to clean it etc. figure out what you like and don’t like. Go shooting with your buddies and try their guns out. Then when you’re ready and have spent some time, go build one if you like. That said, I have built a few as well as a pcc 9mm and I like aero as a starting platform.
