I said the Roster was boring… Then I shot a Staccato XC

Range Report - A few days ago, I posted about how boring the California Roster feels for service pistols, and how I didn’t really see anything worth uprooting my Glock ecosystem for - spare parts, mags, holsters, optics setups, etc.

Well, I was in Vegas these past few days and stumbled into a public indoor range after grabbing ramen at one of my usual spots away from the Strip. I ended up renting a couple of Staccatos, the P 4.5 and XC, and yeah… I finally get the hype. The XC feels like a cheat code for shooting fast and accurately.

Here’s a short snippet at 10, 15, and 25 yards without the usual “1-sec per shot” indoor range limit. Whoa.

The XC is not available in California, so, what is the next best alternative?



I also tried a VP9L and M&P 2.0 beforehand. Both were fine, but nothing that really moved the needle for me performance-wise. The target was already shot up before I got to the Staccatos.

Depends - what’s the price range? Does it have to be on roster or is just legally available new from an FFL fine?

Staccato has a whole Ranch just South of Vegas., you can their whole lineup.

Only things on roster worth checking out will be the Kimber 2k lineup, or maybe Prodigy

Depends - what’s the price range? Does it have to be on roster or is just legally available new from an FFL fine?

I can go higher, but preferably in the 2-3K range. I would believe that this already puts those Off Roster out of reach.

Neither of those are on roster tho. Kimber has been “two weeks away” since February but I haven’t heard anything about the Prodigy.

1million percent would NOT buy a fusion. I bought the Ported and Comped one, it never worked correctly, sent it back they claimed to "fix" it, they did not.
Sent it to a local gunsmith, he got it working properly. I sold it and took an $800 loss, probably put 250 rounds through it.
Plus its not on roster either

Have you shot the C4X? It’s not the XC but I wouldn’t put it miles away. Bit more than $3k though.

Staccato HD P4 is as close as you're gonna get with the Staccato brand and on-roster.

Ported and comped have had problems but most have been resolved with either tuning the extractor or changing the spring weight. I definitely WOULD NOT write off fusion. I myself have a fusion Pro Comp and other than 2 stovepipes In the first 20 rounds, zero problems. The thing punches holes through holes.

in that price range and the fact that we live here so most other stuff isn't available only the Kimbers will compete, not a lot to do with a comped gun though unless you shoot multigun.

What was the problem(s)? How long ago? I did read the first batch had issues that were addressed subsequently. I like mine, but only a hundred rounds through so far.

Ended up having the feed ramp reworked.
Extractor retuned, different recoul spring.
It was at the end of last year.
The gun was junk. First mag in it the slide got stuck. It would never cycle rounds reliably.

Plenty of folks have legally obtained freedom week mags for either/both traditional 2011 mags or glock mags.
