I built a free USPSA classifier tracker + "path-to-class" projector — looking for feedback

Hey all — I'm a RO who also builds software for a living/fun. This started as a personal spreadsheet for tracking my classifier progress and turned into something I figured was worth sharing. It's called MatchChaser, it's free, and I'm looking for shooters to kick the tires and tell me where needs work.

It's independent — not affiliated with USPSA or PractiScore. You just enter your scores (or paste your classifier history to bulk-import).


What it does right now:

- Path-to-class projector — set a goal class and it shows the exact hit factor you'd need on your next classifiers to get there, per division.

- Classification dashboard — your current calculated class per division using best 6 of 8, updated the second you log a score (not on a Tuesday batch). -

- Classifier deep-dives — one page per classifier code: stage diagram (PDF), current HHFs by division, your full history, a per-division leaderboard, and a discussion thread for tips/strategy.

- Classifier log + bulk import — computes your % against the current HHF.

- Match journal + calendar — log matches (place, % of winner, notes), see upcoming/planned vs. completed on a calendar, and pull up match listings via PractiScore/USPSA or embed your home club's PractiScore calendar. (This needs work, not happy with it - yet)

- Membership renewal reminders so your membership doesn't lapse. (opt out available)

- Live HHF reference for every active classifier.

- Gear inventory with community page showing the most popular accessories by users.

- Ammo tracker - track how many rounds you put downrange with low ammo notices and equipment maintenance reminders.


What I'd love feedback on:

- Does the classification math match what your USPSA card actually says? (That's the #1 thing I want to verify against real accounts.)

- What's confusing, missing, or just annoying?

- What would actually make you use this regularly?

It's a beta, so there will be rough edges — that's kind of the point of posting now. You're early enough that your feedback shapes future features.

This looks like it has tons of potential, and it already looks professional and legitimate. I’m impressed! I haven’t registered yet, but a couple of thoughts/questions that came up while looking at the description page:

1) Can/will the match journal have prompts (fixed or customizable) similar to Lanny Bassham’s performance journal (“With Winning In Mind”)? Things like “what went well,” “what do I need to work on,” “goal or focus going in,” “goal or focus going forward,” etc.

2) Can/will you provide YouTube links to short videos that show each particular classifier being run, so people can get an idea of what to actually expect? It helps in planning your own approach to a classifier you’ve never shot before. These links could go in the classifier deep-dives section. Along those lines, if there’s a way you can offer suggestions on the best/most efficient way to run a classifier, that would really help during a prematch walk-through at places that don’t reveal ahead of time what the classifiers will be. The discussion threads might become too noisy or long to access needed suggestions quickly, or they may offer no worthwhile strategies at all on some of the more obscure classifiers.

3) How much will it cost to access all the features once it’s out of Beta?

These were just a few thoughts that came to mind as I read through the description page you linked. I think there’s a real need and a real market for something like this. I will definitely be trying it out!

Agree, it looks really nice and I think this is a niche that needs to be filled. I registered but haven’t had a chance to play around with it yet. I have one more match before I’m classified so can’t pull my classifier info directly, but will mess around with some of the functionality and give feedback as soon as I’m done with this 2 day Mason Lane class and get some wedding planning stuff out of the way this weekend

These were just a few thoughts that came to mind as I read through the description page you linked. I think there’s a real need and a real market for something like this. I will definitely be trying it out!

1 - I have two sections one for Classifiers and one for Matches to analyze performance. More for Match info, to help diagnose many 'what if' scenarios. A sandbox of sorts to play with your time and hits to see where you would have ranked, if performed better in the statistic you change.

2 - I don't think I will make any, but community adding links from YT creators would be a easy add.

3 - My plan is to keep all that is in beta now, free, ongoing. If I add any premium features, that is where a new tier may come in. But honestly I don't see how I could ever get above $5/mo with premium stuff. I would rather have a good user base and have a advertiser want to add a banner to generate revenue to pay expenses. Not looking to make money on it. Cover all costs would be ideal. (At least the wife said so.)

I never consider it. I'm sure it is something we could do once I get things established and all working after beta users feedback.

My main goal of this all (original spreadsheet) was:

1 - track my classifier progress and what was needed to make my goal class.
2 - match analysis to see not only how accuracy / speed was deficient from the match winner, but how much I needed to improve, in realistic steps/goals.

Anyone could say I need to be 40 seconds faster or less D or C hits (or damn those NS!) ... but I wanted to see how each minor change in my performance would translate into a actual rank result. (for that day) It just kept growing from there.

Once I got to the point I was tired of Excel, I moved to the web and a few friends wanted to play with it as well... so I made the registration system and opened it up to the public.

Public sync from USPSA is not openly offered by an API so you have to get creative. I have yet to crack any way to import though Practiscore, other than the current manual method.

How-to videos on the import pages NEW​

• New to importing your USPSA classifier history? The Classifiers → Import page now has a "▶ Watch the how-to video" button — a short walkthrough of copying your USPSA Classification page and pasting it in.
• The match-results and stage-by-stage import boxes have the same video slot, and they'll light up as those walkthroughs are published.

Project a whole classifier match at once NEW​

• New Match projector — find it under Projector → Match projector. Heading to a match with several classifier stages? Tell us how many, and for each division you shoot we show the average percentage you'd need across those stages to move up to each higher class.
• Anything that would take more than a 100% average is tagged "stretch" — you'd have to beat the High Hit Factor on average across the whole match to get there. Targets that aren't reachable in that many stages just say so, so you don't chase a number that can't happen.
• Each class opens a hit-factor-per-classifier breakdown: the exact HF to shoot on every active classifier at its current HHF to hit your target. The regular single-score projector is still right next door under "What's next".

Classification math now matches USPSA exactly FIXED​

• Major Match scores (Level II / III, etc.) now import from your USPSA classifier history. Previously the row erred out with a confusing "Unknown classifier" message because there's no classifier code on a major-match row. They're now stored, displayed with a clear MAJOR MATCH label on your score history, and count toward your classification just like USPSA counts them — best 6 of recent 8.
• Zero-percent scores (the F-flagged "lowest of recent 8" rows USPSA lists, e.g. a DQ-scored 0% on a classifier) now import too. We were rejecting them as "out of range"; USPSA actually puts them in the rolling 8 to occupy a slot. Without them in our window, the best-6 was sometimes pulling in a higher older score that USPSA had already pushed out — making our calc drift above USPSA's. They line up now.

Three-score path on the projector NEW​

• On the projector, when the single-score number to reach the next class is a really big jump from your current average, the page already shows you a gentler 2-score path. Now if even that 2-score number is still well above current, you get a third option — the per-score % you'd need across your next three classifiers instead.
• Each path appears as its own column with the matching hit factor per classifier in the detail table. The "Easier path" hint at the top of the detail walks through both alternatives in plain language so you can pick the plan that actually feels doable.

Sort any column on the classifier catalog IMPROVED​

• Every column header on the classifier catalog is now click-to-sort — Code (chronological, year-aware so 99-01 sorts before 23-01), Name, Rounds, Pts, Videos, Your best, and Reps. Click once for ascending, click again to flip to descending; click a different column to switch.

Compare yourself to anyone in the match NEW​

• The Head-to-head card on every match analysis now has a Compare with picker — by default it points at the division winner, but you can choose any shooter in the field and the time, points, alpha rate, penalties, and hit deltas all recompute against them.
• The "If you closed the time gap" card follows the same selection, so the projections stay consistent with whoever you're measuring yourself against.

Multi-division match imports in one paste IMPROVED​

• Shot a match in two divisions on the same day? Paste the PractiScore Overall once — we now detect every division your USPSA number appears in and offer a checkbox panel to import them all in one go.
• Each checked division creates its own match record with its own analysis, classification math, and per-stage breakdown. Already-imported divisions show up disabled with a "already in your log" tag so you can't accidentally duplicate them.

Edit and delete from the match analysis page IMPROVED​

• New Edit match and Delete match buttons on every match analysis page — no more hunting back to the matches list to fix a typo or remove a wrongly-imported match.
• Every row in the Stage by stage table has an Edit link that jumps straight to that stage in the match editor, scrolls it into view, briefly highlights the row, and drops your cursor in the first field.
• Deleting a match now also clears its stage and competitor rows, so re-importing the same match later starts from a clean slate.

Predicted clean run math fixed FIXED​

• The "Predicted clean run potential" card on match analysis now works correctly for matches imported via the PractiScore stages paste. Earlier, when the paste didn't carry per-stage match points, the math fell back to "no improvement" and showed identical current → potential numbers. We now derive the missing values on the fly.
• If you had a match showing 100% identical current → potential numbers, refresh the analysis page — you should see a real clean-run delta and a corrected % of winner.
