Did the required 8-hour training and quals for my renewal today. It went well and was actually reasonably interesting, some back and forth discussion among the students and a fair amount of it was productive. Eight students, qualifying with anywhere from two to six (the max here) guns. Six of the eight sailed through it pretty easily, the other two struggled and will return for remediation.
Humboldt County Sheriff wants renewal applications not earlier than 30 days prior to expiration and in my experience they've never had a problem turning the renewal around in less than 30 days. I'm about 40 days out right now, so more to follow after a short wait and then starting my renewal. There are of course some new state-level things since last time I did this and it costs more now, but still the same local staff handling things so I expect they won't change any more than the state requires them to.
