How to get your CCW with the LAPD

Yeah, I believe you are tied to one agency or the other depending on whom you initially applied through and it wont change. I applied via LASD and both my intial pick up and my renewal pick up were both LASD in Monterey Park.

In regards to pick up appointment times, for me with the LASD, they had standard operating hour pick up appointment times. I think they ranged from 8am to 5pm or so.

LAPD got back to me. Looks like they are transitioning to Permitium and revamping the processing. Here’s to hoping renewal interviews will be via telephone. All I got from them was to renew 90 days before expiration and check the website for updates. Mine expires July 2025 so I have some time.

If you are in SFV I’d recommend Scott Druyan at laccw.net. He has a class at a private range in Sylmar and also firing line in Burbank.

I had applied in 02/2023. My interview was 10/2023 and got the call to pickup on 12/2023. I had a run in with law enforcement in 2006. Disclosed the information during the interview. Bought a new gun before sin tax and CCW checks the boxes for 2nd form for address and for FSC.

Nice, all within a year.

I see on the application you declare which guns you are declaring for CCW. What is the process like for amending this? I only have one gun I would CCW at the moment (P365) but what if I buy say a CZ P-01 between submitting the application and the interview?

This isn't any thing solid but my friend bought another gun after his initial interview and qualified with it at his CCW class and it was added to his permit.

It doesn’t matter what’s on the application only what 3 you qualify with. After you submit it those 3 will get added to your CCW.

The above are correct, it’s what you qualify with and submit on your training. If this is AFTER you’ve been issued a permit, that’s a different story.

Finally got the call for an interview yesterday after submitting initial email exactly a year ago. Took care of the the livescan today and my interview day is September 9. I listed 2 firearms on the app so will wait to complete training as I am considering getting one more to put on the permit. Will doing the training prior to interview really speed up the process? Similar to the thread starter, I had a run in with lapd almost 30 years ago, possession of a firearm in a car when I was a teen and I believe a marijunna possession same time frame. I did put on the app to show full disclosure, no records of any of it since was so long ago, would this be an issue? Realistically would 3 months after interview be a good guess as to when will actually get the permit? Appreciate all the great info on this forum.

They have changed the process for LAPD CCW applications significantly. It is more streamlined and mostly online based. The interview is scheduled at community police stations as opposed to the head quarters. I got my "nod to apply" today and applied immediately. Scheduled my in-person next Tuesday which is 5 days from now. Not sure this is normal but this is where I am at. Will do LiveScan tomorrow and just head there next Tuesday. I am just not sure what paperwork to take with me as all supporting documents were uploaded during the application process. Thoughts?

Absolutely it’s different now. Currently in the process of renewing my CCW via Permitium. Says it would take an hour and no interview is necessary but I answered all the same questions (felt like it) as my initial interview.

I had to provide online:
My ID, front and back, as different image files
Proof of residency (car registration and water bill)
I also gave supporting files because I have a P.O. Box and let them know before hand and they asked for the file provided.

A total payment of $31.29 and that was it.

Just need to do my 8 hour shooting/class, submit that and I believe that’s it.

No live scan, “no interview”, and it looks like they will mail me my renewal?

Am getting text message updates which was nice.

If I recall, so far I’ve paid:
200 + 50 (ccw renewal class + 25 for each gun after the first one, LAPD MAX 3 guns)
25+1.29+5 (initial permit fee + CC fee + service fee)
Still owe about 52 for the renewal.

Found this price breakdown in Permitiums website. Hopefully it helps.
