How Private are Y'all with your CCW?

It's nothing to brag about. Only close family, friends know I have the license. Even then, they don't know when and where I am carrying.

My wife and kid know, as do the people I asked to write my reference letters for my original application. Other than that I don't tell a soul, and I haven't even told my own mother.

What is to be gained by telling anyone other than those that (for some reason) absolutely need to know? Concealed is concealed, and we don't just mean the gun itself. There is little to be gained by advertising this stuff, folks -- especially in California.

I don’t tell anyone I have it. My family knows I have it, and I tell as many people that I know that have firearms that they should get one and carry everywhere they go. Now, at a gun shop of course when your purchasing having a CCW counts as your second form of ID so sometimes people see it and ask me about the process.

And yet here we are with our screen names plastered all over this thread AND California DOJ released damn near everyone's name 2 years ago. They did say they were sorry, so that makes it all ok.

What CCW? Jk- only wife knows. Few friends that CC also and FFL’s when i do a transaction.

I actually do not go out of my way to keep it private. Anyone who knows I have firearms frequently will also know I have CCW. I don't look like a sterotypical gun owner nor am I in an occupation where ccws are of common interest.
I do it to help shift the general perception of what kind of person a CCW holder is.

That being said I never announce if I am carrying or not.

Only with my circle of friends who also carry. We go to the same trainings/classes together.

Never tell people who don’t own a firearm or carry it that you are carrying even if they are close to you. They do not understand the seriousness of concealment.

Don’t “disclose” 💩. No one needs to know except maybe your spouse. If you never need it, they will never know you have it. If you do need it, no matter who they are, they will find out when the needed one most!

That’s a weird call. I can say for me I don’t tell anyone I carry a firearm but at the same time I would never lie to anyone if they ask me if I carry a gun. There’s been a handful of times over the years where someone asks me “hey,‘you are/were a cop [retired now]. What do you think about all these nutjobs who carry guns?”

I don’t ever lie, I offer up thay I carry a weapon everywhere I go, that I wish more people would, and that I wish the standards were higher to carry a weapon.

I'd be far more concerned with the California Red Flag (Light?) law where any knucklehead can seek a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) to remove firearms from a person who has been deemed a threat to themselves. You should be able to work out of it, but that too light of a hair trigger is on the complainer who risks nothing.

Why? CCW holders have widely demonstrated they are far more safe and commit far less crimes than LEOs.

Because typically when law enforcement responds to a complaint it's the most punitive action possible and then let the charged party figure it out in court. If someone falsely files a GVRO red flag against you and it's complete fiction you'll most likely come out of it fine, but do you want to deal with the court process for 6-8 months and find temporary storage for your firearms in the meantime?

With the court system the process is often the punishment.

That's the point I was making. Accusers (those getting the restraining order) have nothing to lose, the stakes are far higher for the CCW holder. There is no "come out fine" as now that event is part of your official CCW history. Follow?
