Question Home based Smiths: what's your experience with the new laws & having your 07?

Like the header says, curious as to how you're managing things as a home based 07. Does the 24/7 audio/video ruling apply to to 07's in cases where you only provide smithing & aren't participating in any resale? Further, what if you manufactured but did not do direct B2C sales?

I'm just a hobbyist with a good amount of experience from working on my own things but have considered going further.

Would love to hear your experiences as of late with how crazy the state has been getting.

I also wonder if smiths are required to carry $1m in insurance like sellers are required.

I looked into this license as well but I didn't deep dive into it.

Smiths are able to buy guns online and send directly to their home. Even off roster, you won't be able to dros them under your name. For on roster and legal rifles/shotguns, u can take them to your local FFL and get them dros. Correct?

I don't smith now but I was looking into getting this license to save on FFL transfer fee and lower cost on guns.

May want to read the 07 license requirement more carefully. It is NOT for individuals to save a buck and circumvent the recording requirements. ATF will and come knocking and check your commercial transactions. Oh, 07 license is a business license, expect your locality to also check to see if your residence is zoned for business. Having a home office is very different compared to a commercial business in the zoning law. BTW, you are also required to have business hours where you have to open your home (workshop) to potential customers. And in CA, there are also a list of CA regulations you will have to follow, DROS access, etc, and yes, they do and will check on you.

This is the very same sentiment I got from a local gunsmith & FFL who was home based. Was particularly well knownn for nice cut/thread & pin/weld work. He nope'd out when they decided to enact the on premise surveillance BS. On top of having government surveillance on your home that you cannot access or review, you're also obligated to pay for said surveillance system and installation.(At least at the time I had spoken to him). Can't say I blame him.... I'd be out too.
