Handgun Magnets (for use in a gun safe)

Does any have experience using handgun magnets to mount their handguns to their gun safe? I'm itching to for a new project and I'm considering redoing the interior of my gun safe. One of the things I'm considering is replacing the interior door organizer with wood and mounting magnets on them to hold handguns + maybe mags. I was looking at these types of magnets: link.

Questions for yall:
  1. Any cases of handguns being magnetized over time AND affecting function?
    1. There's this post about the magnetism transferring, but he claims there was no affect on function. Do any other folks have experiences?
  2. General experience with magnet gun mounts. Were they reliable for you? Would you recommend it? Any warnings?

ps - my handguns are currently being organized with savior arms handgun racks. They work well, but I wanted to try something new (and a better way to show off my handguns) 😀

For most handguns, compact yet accessible storage is key, and I use a rack similar to yours (made by Sturdy Safe). Zero experience with magnets, but I worry about magnetizing moving parts.

The other idea is: Put velcro on the inside of the front door, then use a stick-on handgun holder (sort of like a holster). Mine are "Acorn" brand, which doesn't seem to exist any longer, but they are easy to find; here is a crappy-looking example on Amazon, but better ones are all over the web too.

I've not had issues using magnets, both for arms and magazines for years. I scavenge magnets from old computer hard-drives and utilize those. (The magnets from hard-drives vary in size so one or more magnet may be needed for heavy arms like rifles or heavy handguns, but I've not had that issue).

Respectfully
Kyle

@yatzooa Is your goal to rearrange the entire safe, or are you looking for just the door?

If you’re looking to retrofit your whole safe, I’d look at SecureIt Tactical Gun Storage. You can see my review and my setup that I posted in the review section here on caguns

Have you looked at Rifle Rods?

I bought a set years ago that I STILL haven't installed... 🙄:oops: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
It's just because I'll have to totally rip apart & re-organize my entire safe in order to install them.....

I bought these a few years ago and they have worked out great. Great room saver.

Oh yeah?? Cool! Glad to hear!
Were they relatively simple to install?
I have to TOTALLY rip apart & rearrange my safe because the "shelf" that's on top of the side where my rifles are, doesn't have a bottom....hard to describe, but I have to totally reorganize mine. 😭😭

I can tell you what i personally did ha ha ha. My safe is 36 inchs wide. I bought a 1x12 and cut it to lenght 36 inches. I did that as a shelf that will go just above my longest rifle. In my safe there are tracks on the sides for a shelf. I set them at the height. Now on the bottom of the 1x12x36 i was at first going to attach the large sheet of supplied velcro with 3m spray…but dont and i didnt after i spoke with a guy . The contact cement is not kind to the velcro. I stapled the sheet of female sode ov velcro on the bottom of the shelf. Then it was arrange the rifles to fit your needs. I also use the new shelf for the metal hooks to hang handguns by the barrel. I was supper satisfied with how much room i gained with these rods. The usual rifle notches are a complete of space. I did have one 22 inch barrel rifle but what i did was cut a hole through my new shelf and just slid that one long barrel through it. The tail doesn't wag the dog right 😎. Ha ha ha the oem gun safe information that says “20 rifle safe” or “30 rifle safe” is vastly misleading . By far these rods are the best thing I’ve ever done for my safe and the new shelf I made worked so well I even made a second to go above it. 👍🏻. But let’s face it….you can never have a safe big enough…

At the moment, I'm just looking to redo the door organization. BUT I have considered adding proper wood shelving on the inside and taking out the adjustable shelves. But I was considering the magnet thing because I was thinking it'd be a nice way to display my handguns. The magnet thing would've been neat for my expensive mags that I like to keep in the safe so they dont rust haha

Funny enough I have the exact same rifle rod system, but I havn't had the time to set it up either LOL glad to hear you're liking it though. From my research, a lot of folks like it

You do know that once you gain space…you will fill it right up with more stuff…. Its a terminal illness..

Only thing i don't like magnets for is the pull is a bit tight and might damage the finish depending on what it is.

I've been trying to sell some to make room, but ended up with another one.. 😅

Exactly!! It’s almost a forgone fact that thinning the herd always leads to adding not subtracting.

Quality over quantity! I’ve cut my collection in half over the past few years. But the value has probably doubled lol I have a horrible 2011/1911 addiction

Well, uh.... I uh.....
Can't barely fit all my guns into the safe. It's ridiculously crammed.
I'm hoping the rifle rods will make it look somewhat neat & organized, as well as be a far better solution than using beach towels to layer guns one on top of the other....
:eek::oops: 🤦‍♂️ 😐 🫣🫣🫣

One thing that comes in the kit. You get a 1 inch thick piece of foam rubber that you “can” put on the bottom. Ive used it bot in and out. Its a thing that help with stability issue if needed. Imo just moving the rod placement on the top where the velcro is does the trick.

Oh really....?!?
I'm gonna have to go check my box for that.... !!!

Thanks for the tip!! 🙌 🙏 (y)
