Hello Fellow competitors. Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club will be having its every other month GPA Galactic Pistol Alliance match on Sunday July 19th. It will be 6 fun and challenging stages. Registration is open on PractiScore. This is a great match for beginner competitors as well as seasoned veterans. The stages are dynamic and fun and for beginners we allow and encourage coaching.

Hey Mike, the match registration is on PractiScore.com. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for a free PractiScore account. Once you have your account you can go to the MATCHES tab and search GPA Burbank Rifle and Revolver Club and sign up for the match. The match fee is $40 paid in cash at the match.

Maybe because this was someone who admittedly "never heard of GPA" and honestly seemed pretty confused like he had never been to a match.

GPA is more "Novice friendly" than IDPA or USPSA. The novice competitor can easily be overwhelmed with the procedural stuff of IDPA: mandatory reload, maintain cover, target engagement (shooting order), etc. USPSA can sometimes outclass novice shooters using iron sights and/or limited magazine capacity such as the 1911 with numerous small targets/steel depending on who or where the match was set. The GPA format is just geared to be more "fun" than "challenging", although the serious shooter can still find it challenging enough when focused on accuracy and time.

GPA is similar to IDPA and USPSA….. you generally have to put 2 scoring holes in the paper target and the steel targets must fall down. GPA has less onerous rules than IDPA…. You still must slice the pie at positions of cover (like IDPA) but targets that are engaged in the open can be engaged in any order (Like USPSA). My match has 6 stages and we usually try to have 3 stages that are IDPA oriented and 3 stages that are USPSA oriented…. This way competitors get a taste of both stylesSo I watched this video just to get an idea of what exactly I'm getting myself into and I'm more confused. You just shoot a random number of rounds?
Of stages. Minimum round count in the stages ranges from 18-24 per stage and makeup shots are allowed unless the stage is specifically a limited round count stage. If you are shooting a pistol with 10 round mags there is a specific division called Low Capacity ( irons or optic) so that you are not directly competing against shooters with mags that hold more rounds. There is no limit to how many mags you can carry on your belt. You must be able to draw safely from a holster, know how to handle your gun and change mags and fully understand safety rules like tge 180 rule etc. The rest you can learn as you go
You will need a reliable semi auto 9mm pistol, with at least 4 10tound mags. A decent holster that you are comfortable drawing from. I use RedHill Tactical holster with a Henning or Boss holster hanger. You can also use a Bladetech Teklok. 4 magazine carriers. A solid gun belt (Kore Products) 200 rounds of ammo.

I'll be shooting my first GPA match next weekend at EDPS in El Dorado!
Kinda like a blend of USPSA and IDPA, the Divisions make a lot more sense based on what people are buying now. Have an X Macro Comp? Shoot it in the compact pistol division. Have a ramjet on your Glock? Shoot it in the Full Size Pistol Division.
No Major Scoring nonsense.
Scoring more like IDPA, favoring accuracy a little more, movement and stage planning more like USPSA. Could be a fantastic way to go rather than waiting on either IDPA or USPSA to catch up.
Rule book is short and straightforward. 24 round stages (1 mandatory reload your choice of when/where). All stages count towards your classification.
Haven't seen anything when poking around that makes me stop and go WTF? Both USPSA and IDPA have an absolute ton of WTF type rules.
