All I'm saying is you don't buy health insurance for the expected issues. One day you're perfectly healthy have great cholesterol and fitness and the world is your oyster, the next you've got a $300,000 bill for a dozen cat scans and arterial explorations.

Good health and good life insurance are the two bullwarks of a financial net worth self defense plan that make or break the retention of someone's assets throughout the length of their life.

Note: If we just socialized our medical entirely it would drop about 1/3 in cost due to completely negating the entire insurance industry. Private healthcare is a scam it's actually just an insurance industry jobs program and everyone is too afraid to admit it.

There's no justification on Earth for such a thing as medical or dental insurance it's asinine. Literally just paying a bunch of idiots to sit around and do a bunch of actuarial math for ZERO added value. Complete waste of resources just so you can pretend like an economic philosophy somehow makes any sense in a world where you actually care about people having a certain standard of living like the ability to manage unexpected traumatic health events.

Half the people that pretend to believe in these free market fantasies are they themselves dependent on some form of socializing that service and the vast majority of participants subsidizing their care who don't need the service are doing it at 3x the cost for no value added other than the benefit of being able to pretend they did a capitalism.

Leave the free markets to venture explorations in R&D and licensing of new exciting technical developments where a race to the highest quality of the lowest cost is actually incentivized. I think anyone with a brain can see that PE firms are not making things the highest quality for the lowest cost. They're forcing the lowest quality tolerable in all facets of the business model while charging the most they possibly can in exchange. Worst possible outcome.

I know an anesthesiologist in Germany that makes about 1/4 of what his American counterparts make.

Of course, he has no student loan debt, and zero concern about having to hire an army of staffers to manage insurance company interactions, or lawsuits.

To be honest the guy lives basically the same or higher quality of life than his American counterparts so I've sort of lost touch with that concern. I'm not sure the implication that my surgeon became a surgeon in order to get rich rather than just because he scored well enough in school and decided that's something they really wanted to do is as comforting to me as it seems to be to others.

Not many people seem to read much Adam Smith actually which is a shame considering the whole country pretends to have some sort of philosophical alignment with the concept of "capitalism".

The concept of "rentier capitalism" needs much further education I think for these concepts to be approached with any intellectual honesty. Adam Smith and Milton Friedman couldn't be further from eachother in terms of what capitalism is or can achieve, yet we're often sold the vision of Adam Smith with the actual intentions of Friedman and one of those is a real stab your granny if it makes a buck philosophy while the other one is all hey if we work together and build healthy sustainable markets we'll all benefit from everyone's hard work sort of theories.

If we're going to get back on track with healthcare or otherwise we have to take a good long look at where we're at in the cycle of economic development as a country and what's remotely possible to save or fix.

Here, we're told we have freedom to the point where most Americans believe it. The poorer your background the more it's believed.

Reality is we are not. Sure, they sell us on gun freedom and freedom of speech, and we all know this is just partial.

US foods are banned in EU for their toxic ingredients.
Health insurance is not "insurance", it's kept you poor while the insurance companies get rich scheme.

US third leading cause of death is medical malpractice/medical errors.

Process that for a moment. The most expensive service you'll ever pay for in your life, is coincidentally the 3rd likely thing to kill you.

Exactly. So the hospital spent the money caring for an uninsured ER patient, but they still need to make money to operate. And so they raise the cost of care for people who have health insurance.

As they (and any other business) do to give raises to various labor pools that serve a hospital, executive staff, the laundry company, etc. Medicine has a unique sworn oath- that's to help those in need. Law Enforcement does not have such an oath. Add that most medical facilites don't share their financials and ya gotta wonder WTF is behind door #3.

It was an error of my perception. I'm old enough to remember before Obama made healthcare affordable with ACA. my annual premiums were under $1,500 and the coverage was great! ER visits were $50 and prescriptions cost me pennies. Suddenly my premiums shot up to $15K a year, the deductibles ran up to $10K for the family and $3K per person and the coverage is now garbage. ER visits are a crap shoot, anywhere from $1-$5K but on the up side, I'm covered if I ever need a pap smear and homeless drug addicts and illegal aliens get all their healthcare for free.


Also, I have been with the same company in the same union with the same classification with the same contract for 27 years.

Premiums didn't increase due to the ACA. If they increased it was due to your union negotiation. There are a ton of studies on this and the consensus is that premiums continued to rise but at a slower rate than previously, and also put a hard cap on out of pocket limits., in addition to getting millions of people access that they didn't have.
